Well, she looks at you so cooly And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
Year of the Cat - Al Stewart

Not much has changed with the cat. I was wrong, it was not declawed. (I guess that's how it could up and down the screen.)
After feeding it a few days last week, it had become too friendly, often trying to get into the house. Because of allergies, that's not possible.
Still, with the weather getting colder, we got an old hat box from one of the boys and put an old towel in it. That's where the cat sleeps.
My wife tried Craig's list and Luach.com, but found no "lost cat" announcements for our area.
I called animal control. The only option with the city would mean that the cat would most likely be put to sleep. That wasn't an option.
I tried a veterinary hospital. They gave me a possible owner and numbers of a few cat rescue outfits. No one called back.
My wife checked things out at work. One of her co-workers is involved in animal rescues and has pictures and is trying to get the cat adopted. My wife was told that it's possible that the owner decided to take the cat to a relatively nice neighborhood and abandon it.
It is a very well behaved cat. But since we stopped feeding it and started ignoring it, it stopped being friendly and started spending a lot more time in the catbox. I though it was simply getting back at us. But tonight, we felt bad for it and put out a can of tuna. It finished the tuna in 10 minutes. I'm guessing that it's been hungry and if we haven't been feeding it, no one else has been feeding it much either.
I hope someone will adopt it. We can't.

In truth, they need us and depending on their personalities, they either need a lot of contact or they keep their distance. In your case, if its not possible to give it up for adoption, take it to the shelter. Its obvious what will happen but letting one of G-d's creatures starve to death is beneath us. Its larger wild relatives are some of the most dangerous predators on the planet. And yet in the domestic cat, beneath the feral appearance lies a loving spirit and the bond between a cat and a human being has often been compared to the bond between a parent and child. It asks for so little but gives us a lot in return and shows us how G-d find a way to be with us when we least expect it. He speaks to us even through the beasts as we know from the Torah.
If it doesn't have a name yet, I still hope there is a happy ending to this touching saga with the cat that entered your life.
"If the kitty don't like it
Lock the cat box
Lock the cat box"
- The Clash (lyrics as heard by my daughter)
To get serious: I suggest putting up another ad that you have a free cat for adoption. Likely someone will show up. My sister had two strays that moved into her yard. In the end, they kept one and was able to find the other a home in that manner.
