It seems that Beck wants to make September 28th "a day of Fast and Prayer for the Republic" and to Aaron Keyak that's "co-opting Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year." What does he propose to do about it?
All of this is why the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) will be sending Beck a Jewish New Years card and will be providing Beck a Jewish Calendar for 5770 to post in his office so he's aware of all the Jewish holidays for the upcoming year. Make sure Beck understands the importance of these holidays! Sign your name to the New Years greeting that will accompany the calendar.Good going, Glenn! You've got the National Jewish Democratic Council all worked up about being "aware of all the Jewish holidays." Please make up an event so that, besides Yom Kippur, they will also get worked up about Shavuos. Oh, and please announce that any Jew wishing to participate in your "day of Fast and Prayer" should consult MyZmanim for the relevant times in his area to begin and end the fast.

Posted by: Kae Gregory at September 21, 2009 9:10 PMIt's not so much his recognition of what day it is, but rather co-opting the meaning of the day (personal atonement and atonement of Klal Yisrael) for something political and divisive, all to say that millions fasted on that day (just as 60-70k at the Mall magically became 1.5 millon according to the University of I-Don't-Recall). BTW, I resent the aspersion that I don't fast on Yom Kippur, because I do! Now who is casting wild theories?

That aspersion is not in the post. I hope you have an easy and meaningful fast on Yom Kippur and a gmar chasima tova. I generally don't get offended when Judaism influences the rest of the world. If Beck wants to have a fast vaguely reminiscent of Yom Kippur on the English calendar date that roughly coincides with our 24-hour-plus fast starting the evening before, it's fine with me. I get offended when people co-opt Judaism and then pretend that it is Judaism. I'm not accusing you, but the fast for Gaza on Tisha B'av was offensive.
What do you expect from that mishmash of stupidity, voodoo and babble they call Mormonism?
Posted by: Empress Trudy at September 22, 2009 5:16 PMNon-Jews should also daven and ask G-d for forgiveness. The NJDC press secretary is guilty of promoting Jewish chauvinism!
Posted by: NormanF at September 22, 2009 9:18 PMI understand that Aaron Keyak is F.F.B. And most of the N.J.D.C. (if not all) fast on Y.K. For the full 25 hours.

I didn't say he didn't. Do most (if not all) of the NJDC staff have such poor reading comprehension?
If he is worried about "co-opting the meaning" of Jewish holidays, did he object to fellow-Huffpo poster Arthur Waskow's "Speakout Street Seders for the Earth"? Beck isn't claiming that what he is doing has anything to do with Judaism.
