OK, you know the the drill: Elie and I alternate hosting Musical Monday. Identify the lyrics, figure out the theme. Please check out Musical Monday #106 later today for last week's answers!

32) And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekend's been too strong,

Thanks for playing Musical Monday 105. In all 26 out of 30 songs - and 3 of the remaining artists - were identified and Yitz identified the theme as songs from double albums.Great work! With the advent of CD's, they're a thing of the past.

The theme for Musical Monday #103 was two hit wonders. Since quite a few of those second hits were quite obscure, it wasn't a great choice of theme. (I chose I will survive because Never can say good bye was a cover version.)

2. "Kung Fu Fighting," I think. I can't remember the artist.

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at August 24, 2009 10:59 AM

22. "Battle of New Orleans," I think it's called. Can't remember the artist, but he did history songs.
Something Horton? The theme seems to be sorta like one-hit wonders. Many of these are novelty songs.

28. "Ballad of the Green Beret." Again I don't know the artist.

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at August 24, 2009 11:09 AM

Is the theme fighting? The first group songs that involve physical violence and the second that regard soldiers?

Posted by: trn at August 24, 2009 11:09 AM

4. "I fought the law." The Bobby Fuller Four, The Clash.

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at August 24, 2009 11:11 AM

Um, not that songs about soldiers having fought does not include physical violence.

And the first group has some songs that use fighting terms idiomatically or non-violently.

Posted by: trn at August 24, 2009 11:16 AM

Elie used a song in Musical Monday 100 that would fit the second group here.

1 - Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting - Elton John

The artist for "The Battle of New Orleans" is Johnny Horton. For "The Ballad of the Green Berets", I think it's Sgt. Barry something, but I can't remember his last name now.

And, I just remembered (I think) that the artist of "Ballroom Blitz" is Sweet.

Posted by: Clayton at August 24, 2009 6:57 PM

29 is by Edwin Starr. The whole title is "War (What is it good for?)"

Yitzchak:

2) "Kung Fu Fighting", Carl Douglas

32 sounds familiar, but I can't place it, and the others don't ring any bells.

"Kung Fu Fighting", Carl Douglas

You're right. I thought of the name "Carl Wayne," but I knew it wasn't right. Carl Wayne was in the Move.
