Musical monday #97

Welcome to the 97th edition of Musical Monday. As you know Elie and I switch of hosting every week. There's a theme here. Sometimes it's literal, sometimes not. 26 - 30 have a different focus. As you know ID the lyrics and figure out the theme. And check out Musical Monday #96 later today for last week's answers.

1) And then someday, You'd leave me for somebody new
2) You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse
3) I can't get any rest, People say I'm obsessed
4) ... colors on the snowy linen land.
5) With bombs and the devil, and the kids keep comin'
6) I want you to want me, I need you so badly
7) And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
8) Catch your dreams before they slip away
9) I lost my power in this world
10) fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa better
11) Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
12) the headlines read that a boy disapeared
13) Neuro-surgeons scream for more
14) Lost in your eyes (Reason aside)
15) I gotta be cool relax, get hip
16) She sits there so refined
17) And if I had an air-o-plane, I still couldn't make it on time
18) And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest
19) I walked through Bedford Stuy alone
20) It can cut you like a knife, if the gift becomes the fire
21) Millions of people living as foes
22) You were always spoiled with a thousand toys
23) Really ain't no use in me hanging around, In your kinda scene
24) Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
25) Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun

26) Sister's sighing in her sleep
27) With desire to be part of the miracles
28) And your mind, your tiny mind, you know you've really been so blind.
29) I was a key that could use a little turning
30) Its better to burn out, Than to fade away

Ah, I bet you're thinking 97, 98, 99, 100! I bet you're thinking that "Wow, Musical Monday #100 is coming up. I bet Elie and David have something really big planned. And I bet there'll be a $5000 prize or something for the person who ID's the most lyrics. Playing every week for our own satisfaction, gets lame after a while."

Well we do have big plans, but no cash prizes. (Of course if someone wants to donate $10,000 to the cause we'd be happy to give out a $5000 prize and split the rest between us. :-) So hopefully in 2 weeks - starting with Musical Monday #99 we will have a 2 part Musical Monday. Well it's true there will be only one theme, but each week will probably be a little bigger than usual. It's Elie's idea and we've been working on it for awhile. Don't miss it!

I am told that the name of song #4 is not Starry Starry Night. Maybe it was called "Vincent?"

Posted by: Gail at June 15, 2009 8:31 AM

29 was by Soul Asylum. Thinking I may have guessed the theme...and I just realized what the first song is:

23. I don't remember the words "in your kinda scene," but it seems to be Manic Depression by Jimi Hendrix

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at June 15, 2009 10:29 AM

12. . . . and everybody thinks he died/except a crazy girl with a secret lover/who keeps her satisfied . . .

It was by Helen Reddy, I think--what was the song (and the girl) called?

B2 of MM95 was "Rock 'n' Roll Toilet" by the Soft Boys. Is the current MM in honor of Mahmoud the Mad?

You're right.

I'm very late to the game this time, it's been a "crazy" week for me too! (in the non-Musical Monday sense)

But I can ID one more anyhow:

5) "Crazy On You", Heart

Posted by: Elie at June 18, 2009 2:34 PM

Here's what we have so far. I also added a couple of extras at the end.

3) "She Drives Me Crazy" - Fine Young Cannibals
4) "Vincent" - Don McLean

28) And your mind, your tiny mind, you know you've really been so blind.
29) "Runaway Train" - Soul Asylum
30) "Hey Hey My My" - Neil Young and Crazy Horse

B1) I'll never be imprisoned by a faded memory
B2) Gotta get away from this stone cold floor

Posted by: Clayton at June 18, 2009 6:19 PM

Thanks Clayton for the Thursday special!

2) I can't believe that no one got 2. I figured Elie or Clayton or Benjie would have gotten it. I don't know that it was ever regular radio fare, but it was, I think, well known.

4) The title of the song is a euphemism with the theme. The group was featured in MM #96 tears/crying edition.

8) No one got this? I'm very surprised. Laura do you recognize it?

9) More famous as part of a band than as a solo artist - as he was for this song. Clayton, I believe that you've ID'd this song before.

14) Formerly the lead singer of a girl's band.

24) OK if I added "The west is the best" would anyone recognize it?

28) Elie I know you've used this song in an MM before. And it has to be one of the more unique group names in history!

2 - They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha Ha! - Napoleon XIV
24 - The End - The Doors

You gave a hint for #4 which had been identified as "Vincent" by Don McLean. Is that ID incorrect?

Posted by: Clayton at June 19, 2009 1:25 AM

Is there anything by Bad Brains? In Musical Monday,
I mean, I wasn't commenting on some of the Middle East threads.

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at June 19, 2009 2:27 AM

#8 is very familiar. I've been wracking my brain since Monday trying to place this lyric.

Posted by: Laura at June 20, 2009 12:45 AM

8.Ruby Tuesday-The Rolling Stones
I finally figured it out.
