This week's Watcher's Council nominations are up!
The Watcher focused on the curious closings of Chrysler dealerships. Doug Ross has done some groundbreaking work in investigating this and has now followed it up. Doug doesn't prove anything, but shows that it's likely that political considerations played a major role in determining which dealers to shutter. James Taranto has more.Home grown terrorism and the media - Right Truth observes how the Bronx Jihadists are dismissed by the media.
Death To Inclusiveness! - Given that he rejected a reasonably centrist Republican for an extremely liberal Democrat, Gen. Colin Powell hardly seems to be the correct one to argue that the Republicans need to be more inclusive. The Razor points out that at the gravitational center of the party you need a strong ideology.
Jerusalem Day - Joshuapundit explores the meaning of Yom Yerushalayim and its significance to the Jewish state.
Living Within Your Means: California Edition - While many pundits wonder what businesses might be too big to fail, The Glittering Eye considers if a state - California - is too big to fail. But if it fails it will hurt a lot of other economies. California will not fail alone.
More Obama administration waffling on "torture" - The Colossus of Rhodey parses answers given by AG Eric Holder and finds them bewildering.
Obama Has The Left Going Nauseous - Wolf Howling notes with some satisfaction that the Left is disappointed with the President since he's discovered the difference between governing and campaigning. Cheap shots are an effective way of campaigning, however the targets of those cheap shots knew a lot more of the truth than any candidate did.
Does Brown v. Board of Education constitute the Supreme Court's one free pass? - Bookworm Room argues that "separate is inherently unequal" was an illogical and highly activist approach to the case of Brown vs. the Board of Education. She argues that insisting on separate and equal facilities for both whites and blacks would have brought about desegregation as effectively and without the negative side effects. I don't know if she's right, but it's an interesting argument. The Glittering Eye disagrees.
Deconstructing The Criminal Enterprise ACORN -
In Mr. obama and mr. netanyahu - the alternative version, I look at a NY Times editorial. Sort of.
My non-council nominee this week is 10 Lessons Israel Should Take From The Sri Lankan Victory Over Terror by Treppenwitz. Since the victory was achieved by military means, the NYT doesn't consider it a victory. Judith Klinghoffer rejects such formulations:
If UN "humanitarians" have their way, Mahinda Rajapaksa would be punished just as Alberto Fujimori has been and George W. Bush and leading members of his administration would be. Those fighting and defeating terror groups must be discredited, indeed, punished. It is a small wonder, the Indian government is doing so little to rid itself of the it's own Maoist insurgents known as Naxalites who are as fond of democracy as Islamists. How else can the world be made safe for terrorists and, hence, for those "humanitarians" whose careers depend on negotiating endlessly, if unsuccessfully, their appeasement and keeping alive most of their helpless captive populations?!Posted by SoccerDad at May 28, 2009 2:39 AM
