This week's Watcher's Council nominations are up.

Land For Peace, American Style - Joshuapundit writes a fractured future history if the same demands made on Israel were implemented here. It's a variation on a them that Yaakov Kirschen has drawn (and now redrawn!)

Has Obama already written the history books? - Bookworm Room points out that before you call something "historic" you better be sure how it will end.

Honeymoon's Over: Now Obama Faces Reality - The Provocateur outlines the challenges President Obama faces now. It's quite good. I'd only disagree on one point:

He's started touting early signs of recovery, and tried to attach those to his policies. This is dangerous. If and when the economic downturn continues, the president will lose all sorts of credibility for making early calls about turning a corner.

The fawning media will never call him on this.

- In the name of God - Right Truth writes about the world's popular justification.

How Much Medical Scrutiny Is Appropriate For A Potential Justice? - Rhymes With Right contemplates what's a significant medical issue for a Justice of the Supreme Court. I'd argue that even a serious condition - not given to medical treatment at this time - shouldn't necessarily disqualify a justice. After all he or she is one of nine and doesn't act as an executive where being healthy is absolutely necessary for decisions that might need to be made quickly.

- The United States of California -

  • The Razor wants the United States to learn from the bitter lessons of California.
California is proof that government spending does not solve problems, it exacerbates them. Between 2004 and 2008 California boosted spending by $41 billion. Now the economy has turned, but all that spending is still on the books so the state faces an annual deficit of $15 billion. Kind of makes you wander if Californians regret that extra $41 billion.

    - The Doomsday Industry -

  • The Glittering Eye exposes media and political overkill. All in the name of winning elections.

    - Another year comes to a close ... - The Colossus of Rhodey considers the aspects of our educations system that fail to deliver adequate results.

    - Candidate Obama versus President Obama In The War On Terror - Wolf Howling does his very best Doug Ross imitation.

Two state confusion - Given PM Netanyahu's meeting with President Obama , I wondered why the media parse Netanyahu's every word for signs that he accepts their premises, but just ignore explicit statements by Palestinian leaders that reject the basis for any peace deal.

My non-council submission for the week is Seraphic Secret's The New-Old War Against the Jews, in which he argues that Israel's critics don't know the difference between criticizing and demonizing.

    Read. Enjoy. Be informed.
