Musical monday #91

OK, you know the drill. Elie and I alternate hosting. Last week was Musical Monday #90, please check it later today for the answers. No googling. I suppose I could do another one or two Musical Mondays with this theme!

1) It was the same old song, with a melancholy sound.
2) When you won't take it from me
3) And your brother's going to kill me and he's six feet ten
4) Cause when you shook me, took me out of my world
5) I should have changed my stupid lock
6) The days are dull, the nights are long
7) You won't find a better loser.
8) I was all right for a while, I could smile for a while
9) The answer is easy if you take it logically
10) I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me,
11) I'll be fine when you're gone, I'll just cry all night long
12) Why does the sea rush to shore
13) I found a new place to dwell.
14) I got good Kentucky whiskey on the counter
15) I gotta keep my heart out of this and both hands on the wheel
16) You can get it wrong and still you think that it's all right.
17) Three cups of coffee, but I cant clear my head from what went down last night
18) Doowop dooby doo doowop doowah doolang
19) And your golden rule to rust
20) One less egg to fry
21) Just like the bird who left the robin's nest
22) The only girl I care about has gone away
23) You dont have to prove to me you're beautiful to strangers
24) There's something wrong here, There can be no denying
25) Well, I can say goodbye in the cold morning light
26) I made a game of lovin' you, and now I hold the losing hand
27) Deep inside we knew our love was true
28) Love will abide, take things in stride
29) Last all, last all summer long.
30) How can you stop the rain from falling down?

Thanks everyone for playing. Clayton correctly identified the songs as being groups with the same personnel. I noted that not all of them were "linear." like Clapton. (See the first 4.) I don't have explanations for all of them yet and hope to get them up as the week goes on ...

1) Paranoia strikes deep
For what it's worth - Buffalo Springfield
2) Signs in the street that say where you're going
Eight Miles High - The Byrds
3) Older boys and prefects
Carrie Ann - The Hollies
4) Traveling twice the speed of sound
Just a song before I go - C, S & N
1) Stephen Still, 2) David Crosby and 3) Graham Nash

5) When the winds of temptation move your soul
Rock Love - The Steve Miller Band
6) Walk with me into the sun.
Everything's coming our way - Santana
7) I'm stranded in the sleet and rain
Wheel in the Sky - Journey
This was kind of a surprise. I didn't realize that Journey started off as a "Super Group." I chose an early Journey song because that's when the personnel from Steve Miller and Santana were in the band.

8) Call it morning driving thru the sound
Roundabout - Yes
9) I'll be waking up the crewmen, Banana-boat ride
Larks' tongues in Aspic - King Crimson
10) All dressed in satin, And waiting by the door
Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake and Palmer
11) Rewritten by machine and technology
Video killed the radio star - The Buggles
12) Your insincerity, And me all starry-eyed
Only Time will Tell - Asia
Asia consisted of members of the 8, 9, 10 and 11. Unfortunately the guy who came from King Crimson was not there for Court of the Crimson King. That's why I chose a more obscure song.

13) Drownin' my sorrows, Avoiding tomorrows
Back on my feet again - The Babys
14) I wanna give in, I wanna quit the fight
When I see you smile - Bad English
John Waite was with both groups.

15) I don't know how someone controlled you, they bought and sold you
While my guitar gently weeps - The Beatles
16) Doowop dooby doo doowop doowah doolang
Telephone Line - ELO
17) Revel in your abandon
Refugee - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
18) You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring
End of the Line - Traveling Wilburys
15) George Harrison, 16) Jeff Lynne, 17) Tom Petty. (Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan are solo artists.)

19) Tellin' me that you really don't want it to end this way
Go Now - The Moody Blues
20) The wild and windy night
The long and winding Road - The Beatles
21) To a registered charity
Band on the Run - Wings
19) Denny Laine joined Paul and Linda McCartney to form Wings. I don't know how long he was with the group, but he was on the cover of "Band on the Run." The only major Moody Blues song he was there for was Go Now.

22) Oh Cajun spice, sweats and blushers your mind.
Incense and Peppermint - Strawberry Alarm Clock
23) Singing songs about the Southland
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Ed King went from 22 to 23!

24) And then I'm gonna put you way down here.
96 Tears - Question Mark and the Mysterians
25) The hotel detective he was out of sight
We're an American Band - Grand Funk Railroad
Mel Shacher was bass player in both groups.

26) Blue-green colors flashing.
Silver Springs - Buckingham Nicks
27) But what can they say, It's not against the law
Think about me - Fleetwood Mac
Though Fleetwood Mac recorded Silver Springs, it was originally on the Buckingham Nicks album.

28) Out all night, sleep all day
Funk #49 - James Gang
29) The stab it with their steely knives,
Hotel California - The Eagles
What I didn't realize was that Randy Meisner played with Poco. If I had found that out earlier I would have included that here too.

30) Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki don't lose that number - Steely Dan
31) That paddle wheel thumpin
Black Water - Doobie Brothers
Jeff Skunk Baxter who is now a defense industry consultant!

32) Your words can make it rhyme so easily
You better think twice - Poco
33) I got back stage passes to the biggest show in town
My music - Loggins and Messina
Jim Messina was originally with Poco. Unfortunately it was before the stuff that was more popular.

34) My eyes just hurt my brain.
Shape of things - The Yardbirds
35) I told you bout the swans, that they live in the park.
Badge - Cream
36) Everybody knows the secret, everybody knows the score.
Presence of the Lord - Blind Faith
37) Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you?
Bell Bottom Blues - Derek and the Dominoes
Eric Clapton of course!

38) I'll give you diamonds bright.
For your Love - The Yardbirds
39) If theres a bustle in your hedgerow
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
Jimmy Page. What I'd forgotten is that he was The Firm too. But I didn't realize that until later.

40) You better take it easy 'cause the place is on fire
Gimme some lovin' - The Spencer Davis Group
41) You are the reason Ive been waiting so long - somebody holds the key
Can't find my way home - Blind Faith
42) And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
Low spark of high heeled boys - Traffic
Steve Winwood.

49) There's not a fight, And I'm not your captive
Radioactive - The Firm
Paul Rodgers

Posted by: trn at May 4, 2009 3:22 PM

#8 was sung by Roy Orbison. The name popped into my head in the car on my way home.

12. SD says Lesley Gore was not the singer of this song. I have no clue who is...

22. And Rickey Nelson was not the singer of this song, but once again, I have no idea.

Some days I am simply glad I know my own name... : )

If trn's ID of #27 is correct, then I think the singer is Neil Sedaka.

Hi guys,
wanted to reach out to you specifically because 1) you guys like alternative, folk and rock music and 2) you guys advocate open communication between parents and children. Spring Awakening, the Grammy and Tony winning Best Musical about coming of age in a sexually repressive German town, will be playing at the Hippodrome in Baltimore next week for two weeks. We have an amazing offer for $25 tickets (reg $47) on Tue-Thur performances. Would you be willing to pass this on to all whom you think are interested or post about in an upcoming blog? More info here: http://totallytrucked.blogspot.com/2009/05/25-ticket-offer-for-spring-awakening-in.html

Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
