Council speak 05/04/09

The council has spoken.

This week's winning Council entry was Wolf Howling's excellent Words have meaning Rick, a critique of Rick Moran's argument against coercive interrogation techniques,

On the non-council side my submission Legal Insurrection's Which city would you sacrifice? garnered the most votes.

There's a lot of other good stuff, so check it out.

In other Watcher's news, the Watcher excoriates the President and his defenders for misrepresenting Winston Churchill in Dumb and Dumber.

And check out the latest National Journal poll of political bloggers, which includes responses from various members of the Watcher's Council. I meant to give a reason for the second question:

Which of Obama's policy priorities presents the best opportunity to rally his network of online supporters?

My answer would be: Alternative energy and climate change.

My unscientific observation is that Obama voters were excited about being part of history. Of the initiatives listed, (the others were health care reform, and passing the budget) alternative energy and climate change are the issues that are most likely to give supporters that same feeling. While I think that legislative success in this area is more likely to be counterproductive, this is the issue can resonate with the President's supprters the same way his candidacy did. Health care is too wonkish and the budget is too mundane.
