The jets and the high holidays
Maybe I should consult my brother-in-law about this. The Jets are upset about the conflict between their schedule and the Jewish High Holidays.
In the letter to Goodell, owner Woody Johnson suggested the game against the Titans be changed to a 1 p.m. start to give Jewish fans time to arrive home before sundown."I am extremely disappointed with the league's decision to schedule us to play at home on consecutive Sundays that are in direct conflict with the Jewish High Holy Days," Johnson wrote. "There has long been an understanding that neither the Jets nor the Giants fans should have to bear completely the brunt of this issue since we are in the largest Jewish market in the country."
How much does this really affect the Jets? It's not like football games have much walk-up business. Jewish season ticket holders should be able to sell the tickets on e-Bay. It's an inconvenience to the ticket holders, but hardly a burden on the team.

On the other hand, Jewish season ticket holders might actually like to enjoy the use of their tickets. Paying a modicum of respect to their beliefs - how would that be so bad? (not disagreeing - just saying)
Posted by: Kae Gregory at April 18, 2009 12:09 AMAmerica is a country that is not remotely Jewish. Why would anyone expect that scheduling a NFL game be based on what a few people want? You want scheduling according to Shabbat and Chagim, move to Israel. If not, then you suffer.

I would guess you don't have a problem when accommodations are made for muslims in this country in various public settings. Apparently the Jets feel since there is a high concentration of Jews in the NY area, that they would consider rescheduling as a courtesy. I'm not aware that Jewish Jet fans were demanding it be done however.

However, now they have conflicting Jets and Giants games at 1:00 that Sunday, which is liable to create yet another spate of complaints. It's hard to please everyone!
