Not political?

Regardless of whether one agrees with Michael Barone or Don Surber about former Sen. Ted Stevens, it's clear that his prosecution was bungled.

According to the Washington Post there was nothing political about the prosecutorial mistakes. (h/t Instapundit)

Maybe someone should tell the editors of the NYT, who wrote at the time the conviction was voided:

For eight years the Bush Justice Department cynically put politics and ideology above the law. So it is gratifying to see how Attorney General Eric Holder is handling the case against Ted Stevens, the former Alaska senator who was convicted last year on seven felony counts of ethics violations.

Given that the Justice Department's actions sunk Stevens's - a Republican - chance at re-election, it was clear that politics did not play a role in his prosecution. BDS at its most obvious.
