This week's Watcher's Council nominations are up.
About The Chimp Cartoon - Rhymes With Right comments on the suddenly enlightened view of the critics of a recent cartoon depicting policemen shooting a chimp. Though the chimp in no way represented the President, somehow to these enlightened individuals (including Al Sharpton) saw it as an affront to the President. Of course, these same folks were noticeably silent when another high government official was caricatured in deliberately racist terms. She is a Republican, so apparently nothing is out of bounds.
Holder: US A Nation Of Cowards On Race - Joshuapundit takes up Attorney General's Holder's challenge to discuss race. Somehow, I think that Mr. Holder is too cowardly to discuss things like this:
Why is black racism and bigotry towards whites, Jews, Asians and Hispanics never a topic for discussion? For instance, according to the most recent Pew poll, blacks are more likely to be anti-Semitic and harbor anti-Semitic stereotypes than any other ethnic group, particularly those who have attended university. Why is that?
As JoshuaPundit's numerous clever examples make clear, we are cowardly about discussing race, but not in the way that Mr. Holder means.
How Not to Draw a Conclusion - The Glittering Eye questions an assumption.
Octomom: A Symbol of Obama's America - I have to say that I hated this title. However, The Razor drew me in with some really great writing, like this:
Feminists have vehemently argued that as a woman, Suleyman has an absolute right to control her own body. However this "right" is almost always invoked regarding the aborting of children, not birthing an entire baseball team in one shot.
Our Supreme Leader, Barack Obama - Right Truth provides a comprehensive overview of the President's first month in office.
NY Times Finally Covers Hassan Beheading - Cheat-Seeking Missiles wrote about the reluctance of the NYT to cover a disturbing crime right in its back yard. I wrote a
follow-up that noticed that the Times was actively trying to shape the way the crime is perceived, rather than reporting it and letting readers decide.
Giving the people what they want - Bookworm Room contemplates the way society has changed and how that's affected people's expectations of government. I'd say that this lays a very good foundation for
today's column by Charles Krauthammer.
The Coming Mortgage Class War III - The Provocateur explains why the redistributionist policies of the Obama administration is likely to bring resentments to the fore.
Reaction Eric Holder's "cowards" comment - The Colossus of Rhodey shows from an example from his professional life that shows that the easy way to deal with race is actually the cowardly way. But it's not what Holder insinuated.
Try a little tenderness - in foreign policy - I showed how President Obama's outreach has (or actually hasn't) been working with some of the rogue regimes he's seeking to cultivate.
The non-council post I nominated was JudeoPundit's Iran adopts Starfleet insignia, which, despite its amusing title is a serious look at a growing threat.
Read. Enjoy. Be informed.
