Press TV (Iran): "Iran prosecutor: Bahais, Israeli agents"

The last Iranian press article I posted about the Baha'is claimed "Tehran tolerates followers of the religion." In the present article, "Iran's Prosecutor General" is quoted as saying "Bahai organizations are illegal":

Iran's Prosecutor General Qorban-Ali Dorri-Najafabadi says members of the banned Bahai sect have irrefutable links with Israel.

After Tehran's deputy prosecutor Hassan Haddad announced on Wednesday that seven members of the Bahai sect would soon be tried, the US State Department issued a statement to condemn the decision.

The seven Bahai followers will be tried on charges of "espionage for Israel, desecrating religious sanctities and propaganda against the Islamic Republic."

The statement by the US State Department condemned the move, saying the espionage charges were "baseless."

"There is irrefutable evidence that adherents of the Bahai sect are in close contact with the enemies of the Iranian nation and have strong links to the Zionist regime," Dorri-Najafabadi explained on Sunday.

The top Iranian judiciary official accused the group of gathering intelligence on Iran and involvement in espionage activities against the Islamic Republic.

"Bahai organizations are illegal and their connections to Israel and their enmity toward Islam and the Islamic system are absolutely certain and their threat against the national security is a proven fact," added the Iranian cleric.

Followers of the Bahai sect -- founded in Iran in 1863 -- are regarded as infidels and have been persecuted both before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

British "Junior foreign minister Bill Rammell," commenting on these developments, stated:
The Iranian government appears to be increasingly using vaguely worded charges of this nature to target human rights defenders and religious minorities . . . .

Iran and its Radical Islamic Religious Clerc's
are the core of all the hatred and destruction
being done around the world. Why the free world
doesn't do more to stop it with complete and COMPLETE TOTAL SANCTIONS ON IRAN FROM ALL THE FREE
WORLD.
WHY! are millions of good and kind Muslims not
standing up and defending their religion by speaking out and telling who these people are that
are destroying their religion. They and their religious leaders know their names where their at.
Speak out and name the one's in Iran and around the world. They and only they have the power to
bring down the Radical Islamic Religious leaders
and their followers. As I said in the beginning
IRAN HAS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. Its not the GOOD
PEOPLE of Iran. Just their Religious Leaders who
are a cancer on of the human race.

US Foreign Policy is determined by Jewish Lobby in America, and American people r hated by the whole world . this iS Iran not IRAQ ,like America throws a Biscuit and u want the leader to obey america ,as Saddam was an american slave in Iraq ,as long as he did wat America asked He was an Angel ,the day he refused he became AXis of Evil ,..for every 1 american soldier killed in Iraq u hav killed upto 2,000 civilians ,his is how u restore peace n Rob OIL .
America has been used like a Donkey by Israel but u still love and favour them, Keep doing n one day u will realise the jewish will backstab u fr sure ..If u point a finger to IRan for a reason ,then look u hav 4 fingers that point towards u as well. everybody wants Peace but nobody wants peace in middle east ..so we hav decided to handle Israel ..

"Iran is one of the only countries left in the world today that still executes children and child offenders (those accused of committing an offense when they were under 18 years of age). At least 130 juvenile offenders face execution, but the total number could be much higher as many death penalty cases in Iran are believed to go unreported. At least eight child offenders were executed in 2007. Iran is the only country in the world known to have executed a juvenile offender in 2008. At least seven juvenile offenders have been executed in 2008. The last known execution, of Gholamreza H., took place on 29 October 2008. Behnam Zare was executed on 26 August 2008. He was only 15 at the time the alleged crime took place.
Amnesty International has reported extensively on a number of human rights abuses--including large-scale arrests, incommunicado detention and torture--have taken place in the context of recent unrest among the country's Arab and Kurdish and Azeri ethnic minorities. Demonstrations held to protest violations have been met with indiscriminate use of violence; several of the victims have been children. Religious minority communities--including Bahais and Muslims practicing Sufism, have also been faced increased persecution in recent months. In recent months, the Iranian authorities have been carrying out a widespread crackdown on civil society, targeting academics, women's rights activists, students, journalists and labor organizers. Hundreds of trade union activists--in particular activists from the Union of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company were arrested as part of measures to prevent planned strikes. Lawyers, web loggers and others who have spoken out against human rights violations have themselves been targeted for abuse."

It would not particularly surprise me if the charges were accurate. The Bahai faith is headquartered in Haifa and does not proselytize in Israel (and does not proselytize in the traditional sense of the word anywhere.) If I were running the Iran desk for the Mossad or Israeli military intelligence, I would want Iranian Bahais as my part-time spies. I hope that they did spy - spying on that horrible regime is a righteous act.
