Ain't Nick's at it again. Kristof recently wrote:
President Bush's problem was that he loved Israel too much. He embraced Israeli leaders even when they responded to provocations by killing more than 1,300 people in Gaza, according to Gaza health officials -- in retaliation for shelling that had killed fewer than 30 Israelis since it began in 2001.
He, of course, doesn't consider how many of the dead might have been those responsible, in one way or another of launching those rockets. For Kristoff Israel is wrong for defending itself.
Michael Yon observes something entirely different.
It is simply astounding that many foreign governments do not see this for what it is. Good Muslims are murdered by Muslim extremists in probably dozens of countries, yet certain European governments insist that there is some sort of moral equivalence between Hamas and the democracy called Israel. At this conference, I hear incredulous Jews who are concerned that their soldiers and political leaders might be charged with war crimes and arrested if they travel to Europe. This is just one example of the racism that vexes Europe and keeps it behind where it could be. Imagine for a moment that Cuba were launching missiles at Florida. We would sink their navy, shoot down their air force, wipe out their army, and kill Castro. Yet thousands of rockets have been raining down on Israel, while many members of the international community demand that Israel do nothing. These rockets are advertised to be small and not much of a nuisance, but each one carries about 15 times more explosives than a hand grenade. Hamas favors launching the rockets when kids are going to or coming from school. Clearly they are trying to murder the children who are growing up under attack. The Israelis have proven time and again that they will choose peace if given a chance. Hamas, when given a chance, chooses war.
(via memeorandum)
To Yon's question, "How Can the World Be Blind to Israel's Existential Threats?" Instapundit responds:
I THINK THE ANSWER IS, "because they don't care what happens to Israel."
Kristof's column is merely Exhibit 1,000,359 of that.

Posted by SoccerDad at February 3, 2009 6:05 AMBush wanted the saud's to become the new "Ottomans" with turf stretching into Irak. And, in the summer of 2006, Olmert heard Bush asking for the IDF (to waste blood), and to go into syria; "to do a regime change." By removing assad's head.
Assad still has his head! And, bush didn't get to add all that much to the sand fleas in sodomy arabia.
Doesn't change how Bush saw himself. And, at some point in time? Someone may tell a more complete story than you get from typical propaganda.
Now, of course, you're being asked to "read" Obama. And, yesterday, I saw an article that petraeus was in the White House on January 21st; and he learned Obama had not changed his mind about troop withdrawal from iraq. Petraeus was disappointed. Which is why you're seeing this steaming bullshit coming out, now. As a way the pentagon has of "going to people" to see if enough smoke can be blown into Obama's eyes.
I think Obama has a plan. And, I also know that Biden said years ago, that in order to get out of irak, we admit the shi'ites won "that" war; and we divide the "pie" into three parts. This is actually the best solution. The Kurds get their parcel. In the center you'd have shi'ites. And, in the south, tucked into kuwait, would be the remnants of sunni tribes; when the smoke clears.
Again, I'm not a gypsy. I don't tell fortunes. And, I have no idea how things work out, ahead. But I do know that Obama is trying to pull the pentagon out of the decisions; since the US Constitution says: The President is COMMANDER IN CHIEF.
While at sea? If you've noticed the American navy got in the way of the iranian ship; which seems stuck, at present, in cypress.
Anyway, just as Israel is forced to deal with 3 "leaders" ... Olmert (a dead horse), livni (a terrified horse), and Ehud Barak (who is trying in the worst ways possible to make Livni go splat on the mat.)
What will elections on February 10th bring?
And, since George Mitchell wants to move to Jerusalem, go figa, the USA has a "mission" there; plus, the embassy in Tel Aviv. (See? I didn't know about the existing mission.)
Still, Obama's got cards to play. And, he's just started his game. (You want me to bet? I'll go long. He wins, again, in 2012 (God willing). And, the economy, which is sputtering, will need real heavy lifting. While most Americans, believe it or not, are finally learning to "do with less."
Who started it? OPEC raised gas prices to $4 a gallon. And, that's what started the Bush's (and the GOP's) deck of cards, falling down.
Heard of Humpty Dumpty? The GOP has managed to go so far off course, into fundamental-land, that they've rung hollow.
And, you tell me? When was the last time the USA had any military victory? Kosovo? Don't make me laugh! Vietnam? Well, as soon as we walked away, guess what happened? The Chinese stuck their thumb on Vietnam. Kept them back a century or two; while Chinese society thrived. Not even a single factory was thrown Vietnam's way. And, today? The Vietnamese who are in the USA, are THRILLED TO BE HERE! And, they excel at school. While those in Vietnam keep trying to find ways to "bring the Americans back." I kid you not.
Why waste time in Irak?
The USA is pretty short of money, now. So, it can't quite keep up with being Uncle Sugar.
