Council speak 01/26/09

The council has spoken.

The winning entries in both the council and non-council divisions this week, discussed art in the service of propaganda. On the council side, the winning entry was Colossus of Rhodey's The entertainment of moral ambiguity that brilliantly tied in the the message of the remade Battlestar Galactica into a message on the conflict between Israel and its enemies. The winning non-council entry was Robert Avrech's (Seraphic Secret) The Real Battle of Algiers, Part II, the continuation of his dissection of the classic movie that appeared at Big Hollywood. Like the first part of his essay it won the week. Colossus of Rhodey's post was also based on an essay that appeared at Big Hollywood.

The runners-up in the council side of things were Joshuapundit's Israeli capitulates about Israel's ceasefire with Hamas and Mere Rhetoric's I'm Going To Miss Westminster Abbey - Britain Hands Itself Over To Radical Islam, Blames Israel about British capitulation to Islamism. The non-council runner up was Gramscian Damage by Armed and Dangerous.

Congratulations to all the winners!

In other council news, I and 4 other council members are on a panel of bloggers who are regularly polled about politics. Please check out the latest questions and our answers.
