Welcome to Musical Monday #75. I'm pleased to offer this version of Musical Monday composed by my brother, Benjie. I'm pretty certain that I've figured out the theme, but not certain.
UPDATE: I failed to pay proper attention. Please note the groupings of the songs. I believe that there is an overall theme, but each grouping of songs represents a sub-theme.

2 On board were the Twelve

I'll hold off tackling the new MM for now, but here are the answers to my additions to MM #73:
41) "And I was born with a jealous mind"
- "Run For Your Life", The Beatles
42) "I can't stand your alibis, your tellin' lies"
- "You Better Run", version I know is by Pat Benatar but apparently, by the Rascals originally
43) "A touch of sable in their eyes"
- "Runaway", Bon Jovi
44) "All I need is a pint a day"
- Band on the Run", Wings
45) "We, the great and small, stand on a star"
- "Let the River Run", Carly Simon
Ooh, guest Musical Monday composer!
6) Looks like could be from It's the End of the World as We Know It by REM.
14) Love You Till The End of Time? Paradise by the Dashboard Lights? Meatloaf? And Phil Rizzuto!
Posted by: trn at January 5, 2009 9:31 AM19) "Miss You", Rolling Stones
27) "Nights In White Satin", Moody Blues
15. Ain't No Mountain High Enough
18. Are You Lonesome Tonight? - Elvis
Posted by: SJ at January 5, 2009 12:04 PM21. Proud Mary--Don't know which version. (Fogerty seems to say "though you got no money," however)
26. "Can't get enough" (or something like that) by Barry White
About "You better run." Bentar changed "You're runnin' around with other guys" to "Now you want to compromise." Fooey!
6. "Ball of confusion (that's what the world is today)"--Temptations I'm not sure about this one.
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 5, 2009 12:30 PMBy the way, the answer to 48, the "bonus clue" I added to MM 73, is "Run Diddley Daddy" by Bo Diddley
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 5, 2009 12:43 PM14.Paradise by the dashboard lights-Meatloaf
18.Are You Lonesome Tonight-Elvis Presley
19.Miss You-The Rolling Stones
About "You better run." Benatar changed "You're runnin' around with other guys" to "Now you want to compromise." Fooey!
Though if she's kept the original lyric, it would put the song in a whole 'nother place! ;-)
Posted by: Elie at January 5, 2009 12:56 PMDavid didn't understand what I meant, but the list
can be divided into three sub-groups
1-6
7-19
and 20-27
3 - The Streak - Ray Stevens
4 - Convoy - C.W. McCall
23 - Smokin' In the Boys Room - Brownsville Station, or Motley Crue
Posted by: Clayton at January 5, 2009 2:19 PMAlso, the two that I added for MM #73 were:
46) "I find myself startin' to doubt you"
Walk Away - The James Gang
47) "But you never listen my advice"
Walks Like a Lady - Journey
I am not certain, but #2 could be Atlantis by Donovan.
Posted by: Gail at January 5, 2009 3:00 PMI withdraw my guess for 6
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 5, 2009 9:31 PMA lot of these songs have spoken parts.
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 6, 2009 9:42 PMAh, so the Proud Mary version wanted is the Ike and Tina Turner version.
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 7, 2009 1:12 AMCan we not necessarily discount a theme that was done previously?
Posted by: trn at January 7, 2009 9:41 PMHere's a roundup of the guesses so far:
1 Take kindly the council of the years
2 "Atlantis" - Donovan
3 "The Streak" - Ray Stevens
4 "Convoy" - C.W. McCall
5 When his eyes met mine
6 Meditation, United Nations
7 Just like the night, dissolve in sleep
8 I'll sacrifice for you
9 I'll know too soon that ALL is so grand
10 They call us irresponsible
11 But I ran out of places and friendly faces
12 But if you leave me I will surely die
13 And Wonder If You'll Ever See The Sun
14 "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" - Meat Loaf
15 "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - ?
16 I wake up in the morning and I wonder
17 Get your feet up off the ground
18 "Are You Lonesome Tonight" - Elvis Presley
19 "Miss You" - The Rolling Stones
20 he's kinda big & he's awful strong
21 "Proud Mary" - Tina Turner, CCR
22 heaven on earth is all you see
23 "Smokin' in the Boys Room" - Brownsville Station
24 Now many months have passed by
25 The tears were beginning to show
26 "Can't Get Enough" - Barry White
27 "Nights in White Satin" - The Moody Blues
Yitzchak pointed out that many of the songs have parts that are spoken. Of the songs guessed so far that I'm familiar with, I have noticed that the ones in the first group have verses that are spoken and choruses that are sung. In group two, the spoken parts are in the middle of the song, and in the third group, three of them have spoken intros but the majority of the song is sung normally. I'm not sure about "Nights in White Satin" - I know it ends with a spoken part, but something's making me think that on the album it might begin with one, too.
Posted by: Clayton at January 8, 2009 6:31 PMWell done Yitzchak for cracking the theme initially and Clayton for clarifying it.
Benjie, neat variation!
Clayton, I had tried to figure out the distribution based on a similar theory, but couldn't quite get it. Making the list so far helps! Thanks for that.
If the first group is indeed interspersed spoken versus and sung choruses, then that supports my idea that 6 is We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel, which is what I actually meant when for some reason I previously wrote It's the End of the World as We Know It instead.
Perhaps the songs of the last group contain songs with spoken portions either at the beginning or at the end? Is Another Brick in the Wall in the last group?
Posted by: trn at January 8, 2009 8:23 PMIs "Ain't no mountain high enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell?
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 8, 2009 10:42 PM17. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul McCartney
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 8, 2009 10:47 PMsomething's making me think that on the album it might begin with one, too
I think so. It is very artsy and poetry-recitation sounding if I remember correctly.
Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at January 9, 2009 12:13 AMBenjie offered a clue:
#1 has a connection with Gilligan's Island. If you know celebrity trivia that might help.
I looked over the answers once but don't remember many of them. 20, I think is pretty easy actually. And I'm pretty certain that 8 is Motown.
Posted by: soccer dad at January 9, 2009 12:35 AMclarifications:
in my original version, #27 was listened separately - the spoken part is at the end of the song - and only on the album, not single
#6 and #11 both were top 20 in the US but were more popular in Europe - and consequently in Israel also - that's not meant as a hint, just why you are probably less familiar with them
