At 1:15 AM this morning she turned 122 weeks old!
As her terrible twos continue, two things occur to me. (I believe I've written this before.)
1) Any time she's capable of something, that's permission to do it.
2) If she can ask for it, the answer is "yes."
Actually over the weekend I've come to a third conclusion:
3) "No," to her, means "later."
One of the things that's developed over the past month is an open mischievousness that she's only hinted at before. She's shown a sense of humor by saying things that she knows are wrong and then laughing.
Last week I was playing hide and seek with her, when Anne asked me a question, addressing me as "David." Then, while she looked for me says, "David, where are you? David? David?" We told her afterwords that she's not supposed to call Abba by his first name.
Last week also, we went shopping. She saw a stuffed Monkey toy. Anne told her "no." While we were waiting in line, I asked Anne why the baby had a stuffed animal. Apparently, she disregarded the "no" and grabbed the monkey from the display. (I brought it back. We had just bought her a Curious George.)
She's in a monkey stage right now. While we were shopping we bought her some more monkey pajamas. She had one pair of monkey pajamas but didn't let us wash it. So we needed to get a second pair.
And I realize now that she's less and less a baby. It's not just the teeth or the talking. When we put her in a dress, she looks like a little girl.
Remarkably she can count up to 12 or 13. However, it's done by rote. The largest quantity she understands is 2. She also knows her ABC's. And yes we are very proud of her.
She is determined. Often when we're getting (or trying to get) her dressed she'll insist "It's my turn" and try to take off or put on some article of clothing. Yesterday she walked downstairs carrying two collapsible hampers. Given that they were both taller than she is, I don't know how she did it. I probably should have taken a picture, but I was more concerned with staying close to her.
As always it's wonderful watching her grow up. Her progress is a real miracle.
