The title of the post quotes the blurb on the Guardian front page (click on the screen-shot for a closer look), which links to the following article:
[...] For in the end what has happened in the past few hours is simply an expression of what has been going on for days and months and years: the death and fear that Gaza's gunmen and rocket teams and bombers have inflicted upon Israel have been returned 10, 20, 30 times over once again. And nothing will change in the arithmetic of it.The author puts the comparison into the mouth of the "Arab World," but he means it himself. Deir Yassin was followed, perhaps revenged, within days by the much less well-known Hadassah Hospital Convoy Massacre. The Sabra and Shatila massacre was carried out by Arabs. The AP, in reference to the current Gaza operation, states "Most of the casualties were security forces . . . "Not in Gaza. But perhaps in a wider Arab world, becoming more uncomfortable by the day about what is happening inside Gaza, something is changing. And Israel has supplied a rallying point. Something tangible and brutal that gives the critics of its actions in Gaza - who say it has a policy of collective punishment backed by disproportionate and excessive force - something to focus on.
Something to be ranked with Deir Yassin. With the Sabra and Shatila massacres. Something, at last, that Israel's foes can say looks like an atrocity.

Update: Great minds think alike!
This is why I have such utter contempt for the media. This is why hamas and other terror groups are able to thrive, because the western media consistently acts as their propaganda outlets. The coverage of this offensive by Israel will rank with the Jenin "massacre" hoax and the mohamed al dura hoax. No matter how many times these people lie, the western media raises no skepticism when the next claim of an Israeli "massacre" is made.
And still after more than 25 years one would be hard pressed to find anyone who is aware that Sabra and Shatila was an incident in which Arabs killed Arabs. This is still purposely not made clear by the media and left wing propagandists who want people to believe Israel is responsible for those killings. It is no wonder there is so much ignorance about the Middle East throughout the western world.

I was watching local weather and NBC decided to put together their collage of the biggest news events of 2008. One item missing from their presentation, was the most significant historic event for many, including I. That was the complete surrender of responsible reporting by our main media organizations. Although they have pulblished much propaganda and have often displayed their bias over the years, this year the mask completely came off. I no longer believe they have a right to call themselves news outlets. From their collective attempt to humiliate an average Joe (plumber), to political assasination of Palin, their actions are most appropriately described as criminal. This press is morally and (thankfully) financially bankrupt. They are illegitimate.
Thank God for the blogging community, otherwise I would have no clue about what goes on in the world.
I would have complete respect for peter beaumont if he would just admit that he without question supports hamas in its right to drive Israel into the sea - instead of a faulty veiled article pretending to be articulate in defending hamas. It is reasons like beaumont that these murder organizations continue unabated, and I am surprised the gaurdian allows such fallacy to grace its pages
