Out of sitemeter

AAAAARGHHHHHHHHHH!

I hate the new sitemeter.

Yes it has some nice new features even in the free version, but what was really useful on a day to day, or hour to hour basis doesn't seem to be available now in the free version.

Being able to check hourly hits and referrers was great. But that doesn't seem to be available any more in the free version. Or if it is available, it was so is not intuitive where to find it.

But the product that was introduced today is regularly logging me out.

This thing is full of bugs and never should have been unleashed onto the public without being fully tested.

I will keep Sitemeter on my site only because I believe that other utilities like TTLB and memeorandum use sitemeter stats. But I need another statistics counter. I have ExtremeTracking but that's fair and not as good as sitemeter used to be.

I've considered Google Analytics but it looked like a pain to install.

Is Statscounter any good? Are there any other statistics utilities that bloggers recommend?

UPDATE: Apparently I wasn't alone, I recently checked out Sitemeter and got this message:

We are in the process of rolling back SiteMeter to the former system. SiteMeter should be back online soon. Please check back later. Sorry for inconvenience.

This does not reflect well on sitemeter. This should have been thoroughly tested before being rolled out. It clearly wasn't.

UPDATE II: The other McCain:

Just got my first look at the new format for SiteMeter statistics. It sucks, big-time.

Like Windows Vista, is how bad it sucks.

Hot Air asks
:

How could they misunderstand their market so badly?

Is it possible that they were trying to push people to pay version? Of was the pay version awful too?

Statcounter is clear, more colorful, and certainly accurate. Be sure to look around if you sign up, one setting is a cookie blocker to block your own IP from stats, and I was able to up my log from 100 to 500 users a while ago for free which was very handy for the hourly stats & short term stats. I can't recall how I did that but it is a worthwhile effort trying. I've yet to see stats not register after 2+ years, super free service worth a try.

Gee, I thought I was the only one not hip to the new Sitemeter. :)

I keep Sitemeter for historic reasons - it keeps track of visitors as opposed to Statcounter's pageviews - but have loved Statcounter since I began using it. It has one problem where a single pageload sometimes gets counted many times but besides that I have been very happy with the statistics and user interface.

I played a while with Google Analytics and in some ways it is better (not limited to details of the last 500 pageviews) but it seemed to slow down my page.

I just saw something about SiteMeter going back to the old format because of all the complaints.

Hi SD, and the rest of you reprobates;
I just logged into Sitemeter (10PM PST) and it appears that the old format is back...at least I didn't see any changes.

As for Statcounter, it's OK,but not as user friendly as Sitemeter( they are REALLY pimping for the pay version..buncha Aussie drongos!) The two counters record in slightly different ways, and its OK as a comparison but it's set up totally differently and I think a lot of SM users would probably not like it.

All Best,
FF

I like Statcounter.

I started originally with StatCounter, but SiteMeter was better and went back further.

The new SiteMeter was horrible for the hours it existed.
