Though some others in the neighborhood seem to be in full bloom, our crape has been taking its good old time this year. I think that last year it was in full bloom by the middle of July and we had an unusually long season with it flowering - maybe six weeks. Last week, most of what we had were buds still.

There are many more flowers now. I especially like the color of the crape against the pure blue sky.

Do you have a crape myrtle? If you do and you post pictures of it online, would you send me a link? Or if you have a photo of a crape would you email me and your city and state. (e-mail to dhgerstman at hotmail dot com and put "Crape Myrle" in the subject line.) Maybe I could put together a crape myrtle carnival in the next few weeks.
Posted by SoccerDad at August 4, 2008 6:12 AMOur crapes are slow to bloom this year as well. Our gardener pruned them with a vengeance this past spring - to the point where I was actually horrified that he'd taken so much off. They've really grown back well though and are fully leafed out, but are not blooming at all in comparison to others I've seen around. Not sure if the cutting back affected the flowering.

You can see them in the Flower post in the blog linked from my name or the best image is here: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3121/2809067119_c9614365eb.jpg?v=0
