Musical monday #51

OK, the ground rules change a little. You're not looking for a theme. Actually, it's more like you're looking for a few different themes. Each group is a theme. And I guess, if you want, tell me the format. In 5c, I took a liberty and used what the song is usually called and not the name given. This was meant to be a bit of a departure. And guess what? When I put this together, I got enough for two MM's. So you'll get similar two weeks from now! I hope you like this and don't find it too weird. When you get a group, you might want to put them together to see the results a bit better.

P.S. If you don't like this let me know and I won't do it again.

1) Everything you do has been done and this won't last forever
a) I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
b) Well, here's a poke at you
c) I laugh right at them
d) One day the bottom a-go drop out

2) I can mash-potato
a) The drunken politician leaps
b) And now you're gone, I guess I'll carry on
c) Treasure these few words till we're together
d) It hides a nasty stain that's lying there

3) I guarantee it will bring you down, If you try and fool yourself
a) Quarter moon walkin' through the Milky Way
b) And if I had those golden dreams of my yesterdays
c) You're hangin your head again, Cause somebody won't let you in
d) Can I believe the magic of your sighs?

4) Before I know it will reach defeat!
a) Read about you in a Faulkner novel
b) You can't dance and stay uptight
c) And that would wipe this smile right from my face
d) Call out the instigator

5) He always breaks my heart in two
a) In a room where ya do what ya don't confess
b) Friday I got travelin on my mind
c) Chasing the clouds away. Something calls to me.
d) You won't find a thing to chew

6) I've seen babies dancing in the midnight sun,
a) Love me or leave me, make your choice but believe me
b) Take a listen to your spirit
c) Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
d) All of the bad feelings have disappeared

At the end of May, we passed the first year of Musical Monday, so I wanted to ask you, do you have a favorite edition?

For me, my favorite was Elie's Musical Monday 34. Each edition takes a little cleverness and a little time. Given the layered approach, Elie obviously had to employ a lot of cleverness and quite a bit of time.

Finally here are a few music related posts. The Volokh Conspiracy had an item on law songs. As is the case with these groupings, country music doesn't get much consideration. Why not Ricky Van Shelton's "Crime of Passion?" More surprising, why the Who's "It's a legal matter."

Bookworm Room has some 80's videos. I really enjoy listening to Easy Lover.

Powerline give the back story to Save the last dance for me.

And check out Elie's 50 Favorites by artist. Go and discuss his choices or give him his own.

5c - Tuesday Afternoon - The Moody Blues

I think I have an idea of what we're looking for here. The first songs in groups 2 and 5 are questions which are answered by the titles of the other songs. As Soccer Dad did last week (and above, for group 2) here is a list of what has been guessed so far. Perhaps this will assist in fillng in the blanks:

1 -
a - I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty
b - I Can See For Miles - The Who
c -
d -

2 - Do You Love Me -
a -
b -
c - P.S. I Love You - The Beatles
d - I'm Not In Love - 10cc

3 -
a -
b - Feel Like Making Love - Bad Company
c -
d - Will You Love Me Tomorrow - The Shirelles or Carole King

4 -

3a. It's the Right Time of the Night - Jennifer Warnes
6c. I Do it For You - Bryan Adams

Posted by: Gail at July 8, 2008 7:22 PM

Here's a hint - 3a is related to 3.

Posted by: soccer dad at July 8, 2008 7:29 PM

Sorry I'm late to the game - was out on business most of this week. I guess the theme for all six groups is what Gail listed for 2 and 5 - questions with various answers.

I can ID one more top-level song:

1) "What Makes You Think You're The One", Fleetwood Mac (obligatory Tusk song!)
