Council speak 03/21/08

The Council has spoken.

The winning Council entry was Rhyme with Right's masterful explication of Sen. Obama's speech, Fisking the Obama Speech. The runner up was Bookworm Room's Judge Not Lest Ye be Judged, a contemplation of the nature of people.

The non-Council entry was David Mamet's Why I am no longer a brain dead liberal. I have to admit I didn't find this nearly as compelling as others did. Mamet has written a book, The Wicked Son, in which he adopts quite a few positions that can hardly be called "progressive." He also created the television show "The Unit" that can hardly be called "left wing." Maybe he made it official, but he and liberalism had been on the outs for awhile. The runner-up was Doron: the Story of True Tzaddik at Lazer Beams. It was the story of one of the young men brutally killed at Merkaz Harav two weeks ago and his dedication to learn Torah, despite obstacles.

If you enjoy the watcher's council and blog and wish to join yourself, there's a seat that's now Up For Grabs. Follow the instructions to apply and good luck.

If you're a blogger and you like what you see, please consider submitting your own post to the competition. Just followt the rules here.
