Musical monday #25

From the lyrics, figure out the song. From the songs, figure out the theme.

No fair searching!

1) It’s my own design, It’s my own remorse
2) Love is not a gadget, love is not a toy
3) It's only there trying to fool the public
4) You're the permanent one
5) You're way on top now since you left me
6) Fifty thou' a year'll buy a lot of beer
7) ...her manager mister
8) ...but I'm gonna keep on scheming
9) You wished me well,You couldn't tell ...
10) But it's not sane, It's not sane
11) It takes control and slowly tears you apart.
12) Apology not accepted, add me to the broken hearts you've collected
13) I can see my life as it comes up shining now
14) Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for
15) Because I'm just about to be your used-to-be
16) The freedom that I walked away to gain, Is nothing but these chains
17) Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears
18) When I say that I'm O.K. well they look at me kind of strange
19) I was just a boy when I threw away my toys
20) ... said the joker to the thief
21) If you think that I don't know about the little tricks you've played

I should have gotten a few more of those MM #23 songs! I'll probably be saying that again in two weeks about today's. But let's get started anyway:

7) Bruce Springsteen/Manfred Mann, "Blinded By The Light"
20) Jimi Hendrix/Bob Dylan, "All Along The Watchtower"

I recognize a couple of others but can't get the titles just yet.

3. Tears of a Clown - Smokey Robinson
4. Tracks of My Tears - not sure who the artist/group is
9. Crying - I can picture his face. I can see his oversized glasses. But I haven't yet had enough of my triple skim latte to kick my brain into motion enough to recall his name...KD Lang did a version of this song too, but she was not the original.
14. Familiar lyric but not quite familiar enough...

I will not google, no matter how tempted I am.

The coffee kicked in. #9 is Roy Orbison. Hold on - now that I am thinking about it, maybe Tracks of My Tears is Smokey Robinson as well.

Posted by: Gail at December 17, 2007 10:36 AM

4) is also by Linda Ronstadt - knew I knew it!

#18 is so so familiar, but I just can't quite get it this morning. Guess I also need that coffee refill.

Is the theme songs whose remakes were as/more popular than the originals?

21. "I can see for miles"--The Who

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at December 17, 2007 10:53 AM

If 4 is "Tracks of my Tears," that's also Smokey Robinson. Why don't I remember those words?

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at December 17, 2007 10:59 AM

2.Tears on my pillow- Little Anthony and the Imperials

4.My Girl-The Temptations

7.Blinded by the Light-Bruce Springsteen

20.All Along the Watchtower-Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan

21.I can see for miles-The Who

3.Tears of a clown-Smokey Robinson

4.Tracks of my tears-Smokey Robinson

18.Watching the Wheels-John Lennon

The theme is things done with the eyes?
