Musical monday #22

Thanks to Elie's Expositions for letting me go this week.

The rules are: figure out the songs and the theme of the week's songs.

1) the second hand unwinds
2) Looking out of my lonely gloom
3) Nothing lasts forever, only fades away
4) I know I could turn, blink, and you'd be gone
5) you gave me no warning of what was to be
6) The trench is dug within our hearts
7) Sweet Banana, You'll Never Give Up.
8) Then he held out some moonshine whiskey
9) Can you boogie? Can you slide?
10) When I was broken in two it was all because of you
11) I had to leave my life in Dallas That town will always be you
12) If you wanna own a great big mansion
13) Yes, that one in a million girl
14) All you have to do, Is speak out my name
15) Soothe my mind and set me free (I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this one - SD.)
16) I just can't believe the loveliness of loving you
17) Shoot 'em down, Turn around
18) I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball
19) I hate to have to say it, But that look's all over you
20) And I just happened to find your name and number
21) I'm through with-a countin' The stars above
22) It`s tearin`apart My blue, blue heart
23) I'm going down, going down, like a monkey

I don't have time right now to list the answers from MM #19 or give links to previous editions. Hopefully later tonight!

UPDATE: Done. See the extended entry.
Plus two more:
24) "Then your birthday rolled around, so you let me go to town" (h/t Elie's Expositions.)
25) Until that day is here I'm crying

Glad to accommodate the swap. I think I know a couple of others but I'll start with:

6) "Sunday Bloody Sunday", by U2
14) "Where You Lead I Will Follow" (title may be only part of that), Carole King

Posted by: Elie at November 26, 2007 10:36 AM

1. Time After Time - Cindy Lauper
2. I can hear the song playing in my head, but can't get the title or group. Early onset Alzheimers...
9. Same as #2. I am wretched at this game.
14. I'll Be There by the um...um...gah!
19. Woman - Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. Why on earth do I remember this one and not the others?

Posted by: Gail at November 26, 2007 10:40 AM

2. Day after Day The group was called The Hourglass?

8. The No No Song--Ringo

9. Oh My My--Ringo

Posted by: Yitzchak Goodman at November 26, 2007 10:48 AM

Is #21 from "Louie, Louie" by the Kingsmen? That's my guess, I'll google now to check.

From previous guesses, the theme is clear, is clear.

Posted by: Elie at November 26, 2007 11:15 AM

6.Sunday Bloody Sunday-U2

7.Hi hi hi-Paul McCartney and Wings

9.I can't think of the name of the song, but its from Ringo Starr

Posted by: Laura at November 26, 2007 12:46 PM

The theme is songs with repeat words in the title.

Posted by: Laura at November 26, 2007 12:51 PM

Ah. #19 is Woman, Woman. And my guess for #14 is incorrect.

Posted by: Gail at November 26, 2007 02:22 PM

#2 was "Day After Day," by Badfinger.

OK, now that the theme has been nailed, here's another quote that I challenge ANYBODY to get!

24) "Then your birthday rolled around, so you let me go to town"
