Mearsheimer not put in his place

A number of bloggers think this interview puts Mearsheimer in his place. Sorry guys. The interview is in the grand comedian-interviews-serious-guy tradition. The comedian is supposed to get in some good jabs (but it's all in good fun) and the serious guy is supposed to come across as genial and able to laugh at himself. Did you notice that Mearsheimer gets the last word on arms sales to Saudi Arabia? Did you notice that Mearsheimer's mealy mouthing about "supporting" Israel's "survival" but treating like it "a normal country" is followed by the trivial X-mas card joke?

Mearsheimer still gets to come across as wise and professorial, not as cool as the interviewer, but with his "serious" points and explanations essentially unchallenged. Hate to break it to you--bad day for hasbara.

Re-read the Israelity post. There's nothing there whatsoever about putting Mearsheimer in his place;
"If you weren’t aware of John Mearsheimer and his book The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy then this Colbert Report - “Jews control our foreign policy, right?” - is good. And fun."

Perhaps I am reading too much into your recommendation of the interview and the hat-tip
to Isreallycool, who thought that Mearsheimer came across as a "fool." What was "good" about the interview?

I agree with you, I had the same impression of the interview. I was anxious to watch the video after reading how Colbert supposedly put him in his place. Yet I was disappointed. For example, I felt that Colbert's response of "I'm hearing, Jews control American foreign policy", was actually mocking critics of Walt and Mearsheimer, making them appear paranoid.

Reading into things would be apt..

1) My hat tip to Isreallycool was for alerting me to the existence of the clip i.e. giving credit to his post for alerting me to the material. A common courtesy kind of thing.

There was nothing about agreeing w/Israellycool commentary.

And what was "good" about the interview was that it was funny. And fun to watch. And witty. That's really it. Not too much depth beyond that.

So if you don't mind NOT linking to Israelity as a critic, I'd appreciate it.
