Haveil Havalim #135

Welcome to the 135th edition of haveil havalim, the post Yom Tov Marathon edition. Due to the number of entries and my time constraints, with one exception, I only included a single post from each blogger. There are several new blogs appearing here, so please look around and find something old or something new - and all of are of interest!

Mazel Tov:

To Israelly Cool! on the birth of a daughter. We had a Sukkot baby 15 years ago. I hope that he's already thinking about how to accommodate all the guests for a Sukkot Bat Mitzvah in 12 years!

To Me-Ander and My Right Word on the birth of a grandson! May your descendants exceed the number of your (combined) blog hits!

Yom Tov

Go Golan tells about Sukkot in the Golan.

What would Yom Tov be without a picture from Not Quite Perfect? Check out Simchat Torah 5768!

Letters of Thought presents awesome pictures of man and mountain to help one achieve a sense of awe for the High Holidays On Norad and Rosh Hashana.

miriam's ideas presents her Yom Kippur report.

Everyone Needs Therapy does much the same from a different vantage point in Self-denial and Fasting.

The IgNoble Experiment, a.k.a. Live Dangerously! reflects on Yom Kippur and the Self-Defense she'll present after 120 years.

ON THE FRINGE—AL TZITZIT has some fun with The "levush," illustrated--in homemade Ushpizin posters saying, "The "dress code" in something remotely resembling artwork. :)"
(I spent too much time looking at the text and not at the pictures, before I realized what I was missing. Whoops!)

Elie's Expositions Unravels the Ushpizin. But not the fringes!

Life in Israel tells us how he spent his Yom Tov in Running of the Zebras.
(No he wasn't complaining about the officiating at NFL games.)

Juggling Frogs juggles dishes too in A sink full of holiday dishes to wash.....

Baruch Who? presents 1st Annual Sukkah Collage saying, "Send in a photo of your sukkah and we'll post it, bli neder."
And after seeing his e-mail, I think I know who Baruch is.

Please indulge me a link to a post of mine from last year, Borei Minei V'samim about how my children and I embalmed an Essrog/Etrog.

Ahmadinejad in NY

ParshaBlog parses his words. No they're not as cute and cuddly as a credulous media pretend.

Michelle Malkin's Keeping the memory of Shiri Negari alive is unbelievable.

JoshuaPundit rightly scores Lee Bollinger for his petulant "petty dictator" comment in What Ahmadinejad was 100% right about. It would have been better for Bollinger to be quiet and force him to face Karnit Goldwasser.

mnuez disagrees with God Bless Lee Bollinger, saying, "Aside for the commentary, I believe that my post links to the most complete version of Bollinger's Introductory Challenge available anywhere."

Greetings from the French Hill presents Hitler To Visit Yad Vashem To Pay His Respects saying, "This article discusses how ridiculous yet predictable it was that Iran's President was INVITED to speak at Columbia University."

Britannica Blog presents Holocaust Denial: Iranian Style, saying, "With the visit of the Iranian president to New York recently, this post by Michael Berenbaum (a former director of the US Holocaust Museum) is more germane than ever. He deals squarely with Iranian anti-Semitism."

A report from Pillage Idiot's NOS.

And even you think of Ahmadinejad as a nutcase, don't dismiss him. For he is a nutcase with an arsenal!

Jewish Practice

AliyahBlog features the Rules of Chazzanut.

Rabbi without a cause argues for greater Jewish continuity with Transition Documents.

A Simple Jew writes about lonely men of the Jewish faith in 5 + 7.

Jack's Shack objects to those who wish to challenge one of the cornerstones of Judaism Jewish "intactivists" in U.S. stop circumcising.

Culture

me-ander presents "If I were a rich man..." about brothers who make an impression.

Teruah - Jewish Music presents Jewish Music in the New York Times Archive saying, "The New York Times now allows anyone to search the entire archive, which goes back to 1851, for article titles and first paragraphs. The race for buried treasure is on and I thought I join in the fun."
I would add that this is excellent advice for anyone. From present back to 1980, the archives are free.

History

Israel Matzav presents Israel Matzav: Temple Mount quarry pictures posted at , saying, "People will still want to see these next week too. Besides, my son is cute :-)"
And shows that history intrudes once again, even as politics seeks to deny it.

Humor

The Streets of Jerusalem presents Send in the Clowns saying, "Sukkos Fun in Jerusalem."

Israeli Satire Laboratory presents Israel Government Makes Gestures to Palestinians and Israelis in Honor of Holidays.
And what happened to those reciprocal gestures?

Israel

Esser Agaroth presents Shabbat ba'Aretz a chance for singles to connect with the land of Israel.

Yehuda presents A Rant About Israeli Banks. Is it any wonder that the black marketeers are (seemingly) semi-official?

A photo tour of Tel Aviv, Israel presents Here There and Everywhere: יריד חוצות היוצר בירושליים saying, "Photos from a festival in Jerusalem Israel. Watch the home page for a photo tour of Tel Aviv, Israel, And many useful computer guides in Hebrew."

Avodah Ivrit עבודה עברית presents you with some healthful choices in To Your Health!.

BARBARA'S TCHATZKAHS explains WHY I AM PRO-ISRAEL.

Politics

SimplyJews sheds no tears for the The unbearable cruelty of Fate that has been visited upon Israel's Labor Party.

Phil for Humanity presents The True Reasons for Terrorism, Why Terrorism Fails, and How to Stop Terrorism « Phil for Humanity.
Actually, I'd disagree and say that with respect to the Palesitnians, terrorism has succeeded tremendously.

The Israeli Tikkun Blog examines The Political Failure of Religious-Zionism in Israel - An Explanation.

Topic I

YID With LID presents Miriam's Story-UPDATE/US State Department "No Jews Allowed" Program. Try as they might, the State Department can't escape Yid's scrutiny.

Mr Bagel keeps us up to date with a disquieting incident across the globe in Unbelievable bad taste:Bangkok School has a Nazi concert.

Anti-Racist Blog: Exposing Anti-Semitism and Anti-Zionism on American College Campuses presents The Bad Genetics of Nadia Abu El Haj posted at , saying, "This posts discusses the work of anti-Israel anthropologist up for tenure at Barnard/Columbia. It shows her agenda, and why she should receive tenure."
(I think that should read "shouldn't receive tenure.")

Daled Amos presents REMEMBERING THE JEWISH VICTIMS OF 9/11 posted at , saying, "In response to Muslim claims that Jews were warned about 9-11, the State Department lists 76 of the Jews who died in 9-11"
So even as the State Department tolerates antisemitism in the Middle East it's fighting it here. .500 might not be a bad batting average, but this is the arm of the government devoted to diplomacy.

Schvach - פני דל comments on a recent disturbing trend - in Israel! - A ‘Jewish Nazi’ is a Moronic Ox.
