No Crocs on the escalator!

Don't even ask how many of my kids wear those things. From the AP via SFGate.com:

At rail stations and shopping malls around the world, reports are popping up of people, particularly young children, getting their toes caught in escalators. The one common theme seems to be the clunky soft-soled clogs known by the name of the most popular brand, Crocs . . .

Four-year-old Rory McDermott got a Croc-clad foot caught in an escalator last month at a mall in northern Virginia. His mother managed to yank him free, but the nail on his big toe was almost completely ripped off, causing heavy bleeding.

At first, Rory's mother had no idea what caused the boy's foot to get caught. It was only later, when someone at the hospital remarked on Rory's shoes, that she began to suspect the Crocs and did an Internet search.

"I came home and typed in 'Croc' and 'escalator,' and all these stories came up," said Jodi McDermott, of Vienna, Va. "If I had known, those would never have been worn."

According to reports appearing across the United States and as far away as Singapore and Japan, entrapments occur because of two of the biggest selling points of shoes like Crocs: their flexibility and grip. Some report the shoes get caught in the "teeth" at the bottom or top of the escalator, or in the crack between the steps and the side of the escalator . . .

I knew there was a reason those things annoy me so much.

I just dislike them because they are ugly as.

This is ridiculous if someone does something foolish and they get hurt they automatically go after what ever is around them instead of facing the dim reality that they are in fact stupid. I am not saying the child was not smart, I am however saying that the parent should have taught him how to ride an escalator before allowing him on one. And for this I blame the parent. The fact that they would think it is a problem with the shoe is just trying to sucker a lawsuit out of a horrible accident is just shameful. However while we are on the topic of equipment failures why would you automatically assume that it was the shoe, when a far greater likelihood points to a problem with the escalator. But as we will find out the escalator was functioning normally so it must be a problem with the whole escalator concept. Why automatically go for the shoe? Because it would make for a much easier lawsuit, any lawyer can tell you that the proposition of suing the concept of an escalator is absurd. It is not an equipment problem it is a mental problem. I am tired of these irrational frivolous lawsuits. What is the world coming to?

I don't remember anything about lawsuits in the article, but this is definitely a rant-worthy subject.

Oh give me a break! My sister did the exact same thing when she was young while wearing plain, old sandals - when will people realize accidents are just that - ACCIDENTS, and things just happen, there isn't always someone or something to blame!

Well, SoccerDad, we don't like them because of the little holes. See, the little holes are meant to be filled up with trinkets that are purchased separately.

I'd like our investment in our kids' shoes to end when we leave the store, thankyouverymuch.
