If you looked at yesterday's Haveil Havalim #119 you'll see quite a few opinions critical of boycotts of Israel.
I am a liberal Jew goads me and asks me if I could identify who wrote this editorial.
First, Israeli journalists and academics are among the most dedicated critics of their own society. Second, the lack of similar “solidarity” by these unions with any other oppressed or suffering people in the world, and there are plenty, reduces these gestures to an exercise in hypocrisy, or worse.
I guessed the Guardian. I was wrong. It was the NY Times. I could be cynical and say that how the Times reports feeds this sort of moral inversion. Or that the editorial should be willing to condemn this as worse than hypocrisy - which it is. But I won't. It's a good editorial and ought to be appreciated.
