Rabbi teichman resigns

Last year you may recall that Rabbi Teichman the principal of Talmudical Academy of Baltimore resigned and then unresigned.

Now Rabbi Teichman as resigned again and in his new letter asks that he not be convinced otherwise.

Actually, I fully expected this when his 8th grade son didn't return to TA at the beginning of the academic year but was enrolled in a Yeshiva in LA. That didn't work out, apparently, and his son returned. But that he didn't keep his son in TA seemed to be an announcement of his intention to leave. (At least that's how I read it.)

Maybe Rabbi Teichman wishes to return to LA. Or maybe whatever happened last year marked a breach that wasn't or couldn't be repaired. It's all speculation as Rabbi Teichman's letter was circumspect and hopeful. If there's any bitternes on his part he didn't betray it.

On the positive side he wrote that he will be working with Rabbi Fuchs to ensure an orderly transition. Given TA's recent history of replacing administrators - waiting until the week before school starts to hire them - this shows some welcome foresight. It would appear that Rabbi Fuchs will be his successor, at least initially.

However last year in consideration of our son's choice of continuing in TA or choosing another Yeshiva we had a very nice chat with Rabbi Teichman. He struck us as remarkably focused and understanding. We also got the impression that he knew very well what he was doing academically.

In the end our son chose another local Yeshiva and seems to be the correct choice for him.

But I can't get past the feeling that TA could benefit from trying to be an excellent academic Yeshiva high school instead of trying to be another Yeshiva high school. Rabbi Teichman, certainly seemed to be focused on the former. In his absence I have no idea if TA intends to continue his vision. I hope it will.
