Haveil Havalim is the weekly Jewish/Israel blogging carnival. The most recent edition is here. The next two weekly hosts are
Aug 20 - #83 - A Barbaric Yawp e-mail me - our friendly blogging barbarian would like to maintain his anonymity - at dhgerstman at hotmail dot com.
Aug 27 - #84 - Me-Ander e-mail her at shilohmuse at yahoo dot com. (This is an update, originally I was going to host it.)
In addition to e-mail you may submit entries to Haveil Havalim using either Conservative Cat's handy dandy submission form or the submission form over at BlogCarnival. Or feel free to e-mail me at dhgerstman at hotmail dot com.
Since I originated the carnival, I've adopted the name for a daily edition that I will try to produce during the war against Hezbollah, Mondays through Thursdays. Unlike the weekly edition, the daily edition will be broken down into three sections. In Depth, Regular Stuff and Assignment Desk. In Depth will be an issue that I wish to explore. Regular Stuff will be a linkfest, though not as extensive as the weekly edition. Assignment desk will be a topic or project that I'm suggesting other bloggers or e-mailers explore. I'll be happy to publish links to or publish e-mails from anyone who responds.
IN DEPTH:
Yesterday (Monday) was the 5th anniversary (according to the Jewish calendar) of the Sbarro's bombing. Here's my rememberance from last year.
This year Israel Matzav remembers the terror attack and tells about the Roth family's new blog, this ongoing war. Ra'anana Ramblings observes that the Israeli response to terror has been to try to do something positive in response instead of simply hating. Bagel Blogger asks what has changed in 5 years. The Zionist Conspiracy gives thumbnail sketches of some of the victims.
Keren Malki has a page linking to memorial websites for some victims of terror, not just those who were killed at Sbarro's. I was disappointed to see that the Schijveschuurder
page has apparently been taken down.
REGULAR STUFF:
As I noted last week Chris Wallace reportedly said that his father, Mike, had "lost it" and that they were going to have competency hearings concerning his father.
A number of bloggers have weighed in on dad's fawning interview of Ahmadnejidad and probably think the same thing.
Deja Vu shows how Wallace's fawning approach isn't anything new.
The Hashmonean finds the interview scary and notes how Wallace avoided asking Ahmadnejidad any tough questions.
Bookworm Room finds that the interview reveals Wallace's shallowness.
More reactions at Buzztracker.
Simply Jews finds a snapshot of Ha'aretz's front page rather telling.
Daled Amos uses Brent Scowcroft's views to dismiss the myth of Israel responsibility.
Douglas Farrah rejects the myth of alienation as a reason for turning to terror.
ASSIGNMENT DESK:
I'll just make this easy (and self serving).
Remember that this coming Sunday is the next edition of the weekly Haveil Havalim which is scheduled to be hosted here. If you have a Jewish or Israel related post from the past week, please submit it to me directly at dhgerstman at hotmail dot com and put Haveil Havalim in the subject line.
