Meta-items

Roundups, linkfests etc.

Judeopundit had Linkim 4/24/06 (and an update.)

Daled Amos did another one of his early morning links, Wednesday morning (almost) 3 A.M.

Serandez has Ezzie's blog roundups 4/25 and 4/26.

And of course there's a new Kosher Cooking Carnival at Me-Ander. (And she got Instalanched!)

Sincerest form of flattery

Daled Amos also did his best AbbaGav imitation and treated us to Islamic terrorist idol. Unfortunately he didn't make any of the text up.

AbbaGav gives us Random Thoughts a la Jack's Shack as he describes a night out with his wife.

And Ocean Guy who lately has been doing Elder of Ziyon-like Friday history lessons, gives a Jewish Current Issues style appreciation of Gen Moshe Yaalon.

Follow ups

Before the last days of Yom Tov I had asked what a white butterfly was. The Ignoble Experiment answered the question. Read Dr. Avraham Rivkind's heartbreaking "Awaiting the Wounded."

Elder of Ziyon reported last year on how Israeli reactive armor is being deployed in Iraq on Bradley armored personnel carriers.

Last week the Hashmonean followed up on the story describing a success the TROPHY system had with a Stryker.

But now Globes is reporting that Israel's bid to provide the reactive armor for the Stryker was rejected by the U.S. in favor of a Raytheon product that won't be ready for production until 2010 or 2011.

Hashmonean laments the American rejection and speculates on its cause. (And generously quotes me in this regard.)

UPDATE: DefenseTech reports that the problem with Trophy was that some felt, as an active shield, it could have disastrous consequences in an urban environment. Others weren't so concerned about that.

And in what can only be described as a revolting development Israel Matzav reports that an Israeli court has decided that the dysfunctional collection of gangs known as the Palestinian Authority qualifies as a sovereign state. As Israel Matzav speculates, this may protect the PA (pdf) from civil lawsuits

This writer made no such error for two reasons. First, the statements of the PA and PLO cited by Plaintiffs are admissions that they do not satisfy the criteria for statehood required by United States’ and international law rather than the explicit waiver of sovereign immunity contemplated by the FSIA exception. Second, this Court’s discussion in Ungar IV regarding the issue of waiver is dictum and ancillary to its holding that the PA and PLO were not and did not represent a foreign State that is entitled to sovereign immunity.

Milestones

SerAndEz reaches 40000 hits in less than a year of blogging. But reflecting on numbers makes him realize something shocking about the nature and enormity of the Holocaust.

And I'm ashamed to admit but I missed Meryl Yourish's 5th blogiversary. I don't know how: I read her every day (except Shabbos and Yom Tov.) She was one of the first bloggers I read. (Back when I was doing e-mail blogs.) IIRC the tothers were Instapundit, LGF and Volokh. I wish I remember how I stumbled upon the wonderful world of blogging.

Meryl has also been an important promoter of Haveil Havalim, something that I really appreciate.

So belated blogiversary wishes Meryl!
