Smithsonian ice age

Wouldn't you know it? Last night we watched Ice Age. Today we visited the National Museum of Natural History. So it was nice seeing two of the heroes of the movie today.

Granted, they've seen better days.

In that display there was a ground - as opposed to a Sid-like tree - sloth, but he didn't much resemble Sid. BTW, the Sabertooth here is simply called a "cat" not a "tiger".

Though I've generally preferred the Pixar anitmated films to the Dreamworks animations, I enjoyed Ice Age quite a bit. It had elements of Shrek ( reluctant hero who tolerates annoying sidekick), Lion King ( the predatory cats fighting ), Jungle Book (animals saving human child from predatory cats) and the Longest Yard (I think that was what the scene with the dodos was kidding). Though the Ray Romano/John Leguizamo team was not as good as the Mike Meyers/ Eddie Murphy teaming of Shrek, Ice Age overall was more enjoyable than Shrek. (Better story, less gross for example.)

UPDATE: Included at Carnival of the Vanities #187.
