Orthodox jews in prime time

What happened this week?
On Monday night we saw two Orthodox Jewish men compete on "Apprentice." One, Lee, was the project manager, the other, Daniel stayed in the background.

The next day Matisyahu's album "Youth" hit the stores. (And the first time in my memory, I actually bought an album the second day it was out.)

But this brings to mind - which was the first prime time show to feature a main character who was an Orthodox Jew. (I don't mean actor. I'm not referring to Steven Hill.)

Two hints:
1) The show appeared from 1990-1992.
2) The actor who played him is probably better known for his recent work as one of the most evil villains to appear on a prime time show.
