For many Dennis Weaver is best known as Chester from Gunsmoke. For me, I knew him as Sam McCloud a Deputy U.S. Marshal from Taos, New Mexico who gets assigned temporarily to the NYPD.
UPDATE: There were two points of tension in the show. One was between Chief Clifford who had no patience for his unorthodox charge. And there was Sgt Broadhurst, McCloud's usual partner who always found himself getting pulled into more trouble than he bargained for by McCloud.
I had a teacher in 7th and 8th grade who suggested that we watch Banacek, which part of a rotation of "Mystery Movies" on NBC (I think.) (During the 70's there were, two nights of Mystery Movies and the rotations included Banacek, Cool Million, Snoop Sisters, Columbo, MacMillan and Wife and others.)
Anyway from Banacek (starring a pre-A Team, George Peppard, as an insurance investigator) I started watching many of these mystery movies. Columbo was probably the most famous. But my favorite was McCloud. The star of McCloud, Dennis Weaver just died. So here's some trivia (as I remember) from the show.
Like most of these movies McCloud was fun. Often there's be sight gags, like during a horse chase through the streets of New York, a beggar with a big "I am blind" sign accross him drops his sign and collection plate in surprise at what he's witnessing.
1) She played McCloud's girlfriend on a semi-regular basis. (Fans of Star Trek and LA Law would remember for other things.)
2) This singer co-starred as a younger law enforcement officer in an episode about modern day cattle rustlers.
3) In that episode, McCloud and the younger man are locked by the bad guys in a meat freezer, they get out by using what that McCloud kept tucked in his hat.
4) Bernadette Peters once appeared as a woman who painted men what color? (This question is slightly sanitized.)
I have no idea if anyone cares. But I enjoyed remembering the show.
Technorati tags: McCloud, Dennis Weaver, Sunday Night Mystery Movie.
