Road raves

Treppenwitz recently had a photo Friday about road signs in Israel.

It reminded me of two things.

One was a 3 years ago in Tzfat (Safed) I was driving when I saw the sign for "Do not Enter." For some reason I processed it as "Do not park" and continued forward. Fortunately, I only encountered two cars. Unfortunately one of them was a police car who promptly put on his siren and pulled me over.

He started berating and was preparing to write a ticket. I was trying to explain in Hebrew what happened but, though my Hebrew is usually passable, there are a lot of words I don't understand and it was stressful situation. Finally he gave up on me because he was frustrated with my inability to communicate. And never wrote that ticket.

The other thing it reminded me of was this joke:

A cop pulls over a carload of nuns.

Cop: "Sister, this is a 65 MPH highway -- why are you going so slow?"

Sister: "Sir, I saw a lot of signs that said 22, not 65."

Cop: "Oh sister, that's not the speed limit, that's the name of the highway you're on!

Sister: Oh! Silly me! Thanks for letting me know. I'll be more careful.

At this point the cop looks in the backseat where the other nuns are shaking and trembling.

Cop: Excuse me, Sister, what's wrong with your friends back there? They're shaking something terrible.

Sister: Oh, we just got off of highway 119.

Yesterday Pillage Idiot had his own true story about a man who shouldn't have been driving. And that ... reminded me of a different joke (that I think I found when I was searching for the previous one!)

As a senior citizen was driving down the highway, his mobile phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, "I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on the Western Express Highway. Please be careful!" "Heck," he replied, "it's not just one car. It's hundreds of them!"
