Hi traffic

WBAL recently linked to traffic.com on its website. Traffic.com allows you, if you live in a major metropolitan area, to set up your routes and see what trouble(s) is/are on them.

The interface is not great and it only works for major roads. Premium features include getting the traffic report sent to your cell phone or e-mail, but the plain feature seems reasonable.

You can get similar information now using the driving directions at Yahoo! maps. (This example is the route from Dulles to BWI - Thurgood Marshall - Airport.)

Maryland has its own system, CHART, including interactive mapping.

(I find it interesting that initially the only 2 state officials whose picture was on CHART were Gov. Ehrlich and Lt. Gov. Steele. Recently they've added Secretary of Transportation Robert Flanagan. Is that a sign that Flanagan is a potential or likely successor if Steele runs for the Senate?)

I know that the NJ turnpike has a site. It also has a toll free number you can call for the latest traffic information. I'm guessing by now that most states have some sort of online traffic information center. These are not perfect but they seem to be better than most of the radio based traffic reporters.
