Around the web, 9/20/05

Crossing the Rubicon2 has an item about Ted "Tibor" Rubin, a Jewish soldier, who escaped the Holocaust, and was finally awarded a Medal of Honor belatedly. She links to an extensive story at NRO of his heroism. The Army's website has set up a special section in Tibor Rubin's honor too.

War and Piece excerpts an article by Geoffrey Wheatcroft that remembers when Israel was the "...the darling of the European left." (Thanks to War and Piece for the link on another topic, I had one of my best days yesterday!)

I found the above article at the TTLB Israel Topics page. It's a very good source for Israel and anti-Israel blogging that you may not find elsewhere. Though I have no idea how he aggregates these posts.

There were a few items that I meant to include in Haveil Havalim but when it came to editing time just slipped my mind.
Solomonia has kept us up to date on the efforts Prof Richard Landes to launch his website Second Draft (a reference to Phillip Graham's boast that newspapers were the "first rough draft of history.") to investigate incidents of media bias in covering the Middle East. The first piece, Pallywood, is up demystifying the way the media takes the Palestinian view as settled fact and tailor they're news coverage accordingly. Solomonia has followed up with Pallywood in the MSM, The Medievalist who is watchdogging the Media, and Pierre Rehov.
Since one of the focuses of "Pallywood" is the coverage of Mohammed al-Dura, let me just add two resources to the discussiong that seem to have been overlooked lately. James Fallows wrote "Who Shot Mohammed al-Dura?" in the Atlantic. Avaible now at FrontPage magazine. This photograph makes it clear that the Israelis had no knowledge of where the al-Duras were. It also raises serious questions how Mohammed al-Dura could have been hit by an Israeli bullet as it is reasonable clear that there was a barrier between father and son and the Israeli position.

Ocean Guy had presented a history lesson of Israel with two maps but these maps aren't showing. However he links to a fascinating article at Neo-Neocon that highlights a story about the Palestinians from 1961.

I'm not sure how TTLB does anything... I just think it's interesting.
