No babies

For the first time since Dec 27, 1998, there are no babies in our house. (Our 6 1/2 year old was born Dec 28. Over the roughly 4 years before we knew he was coming, I had settled into a complacency that we'd have three children; just like the families my wife and I grew up in.)
But now our 4 year old is getting ready to start school. (Pre-nursery in Maryland. The educational establishment in Maryland that has little success running public schools has arbitrarily decreed - without conclusive evidence that it's a good idea - that the cutoff date for all schools, even private ones, is now Sept 1. So though she should be starting nursery she's starting pre-nursery.) She's not a baby anymore. I suppose that she's not been a baby for awhile. But until now I could delude myself that she was still our baby. School changes that.
It makes me feel old.
So is five (children that is) our lucky number? I guess we'll see.
