Getting Ready
I recently received an e-mail from the Blogger who writes Biur Chametz and goes by the nom de-YomTov of Zman Biur signing off:
Rapidly approaching,Indeed, Zman Biur is rapidly approaching. Speaking of Biur Chametz, this time of the year his TTLB position in the blogosphere becomes "An Adorable Little Kid" due to all the increased traffic he gets due to the search engines who don't realize that BC is about a lot of other things too. But just so you won't be left out in the cold he thoughtfully links to a couple of Pesach related sites in his disclaimer up on top.Zman Biur
Mystical Paths has links with information for Pesach after Shabbos Rules.
Roger L. Simon spends Sunday at the Matzah Factory with Madeleine.
Bloghead, DovBear and The Rabbi's Kid object to the high cost of Pesach food.
I got an assist from Critical Mastiff in explaining why the cost is high.
UDATE: Jerusalem Diaries lists 18 ways you can recognize that Pesach is coming in Jerusalem. ( via CosmicX)
UPDATE: Biur Chametz offers a complete guide to safe Biur Chametz. (URL corrected.) About the only thing missing is the equation describing the combustion of the crumbs!
UPDATE: Parsha Blog has a number of useful Pesach links
UPDATE: A couple of Pesach related quizzes: one at Hirhurim and a "shameless" knockoff at Biur Chametz.
On cleaning
Penny Stock imagines that she's solving a crime. Or grime?
Me-Ander has some safety tips for cleaning. Did you that electricians in Israel have one of their busiest seasons in the time before Pesach? Read to find out why! And what does she listen to to help her through the cleaning? Carmen and other stuff just for the occasion!
UPDATE: Since in a sense you could say that Matza is a Kosher Eucharist I checked out the blog by that name. Um, a word of caution, if you're a piece of chametz/leaven, stay away from him.
On relatives and history
Mirty gets Married recalls the sadness with which she recalls Pesach/Passover, the loss of her dear Uncle Pasey.
Sweet Rose will miss her family.
I have a story of a relative, actually an ancestor who lived about two hundred years ago, and how he saved someone around this time of year.
Crossing the Rubicon2 reminds us that the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising started on the first Seder night.
Next/This year in Jerusalem
Pesach how it's supposed to be
CosmicX recounts how Pesach is to be observed in "This year in Jerusalem" - Jews from all around converging on Yerushalayim/Jerusalem to celebrate the time of our freedom together. Beautiful sentiments, beautiful picture and beautiful comments!
Jerusalem Mandate tells of a different convergence on Yerushalayim.
And Kumah has the pictures in a Pre Pesach Photo Montage to inspire you to go to Israel. (Though it isn't Pesach related, Chayyei Sarah's "My Trip up North makes me long for Israel. Two years ago my parents brought my family and my brother's family to Israel to celebrate Pesach with my other brother's family in Beit Shemesh. One of the highlights of that trip was the pre-Pesach tiyul to Galil and Golan. Chayyei Sarah's experiences evoked some of the feelings I had of that trip.)
Jews In Green a resource for Jewish Service members tells of a different kind of Aliyah La'regel/Holiday pilgrimage: "Passover Pilgrimage To Iraq" (via Jrants. Warning: You may have to scroll down quite a bit to view this entry.)
Mystical Paths looks at some of the signs and wonders if this is the year?
The Seder
Biur Chametz offers his thoughts on Discussing the Exodus over Four Cups of Wine.
UPDATE: CosmicX exhorts us to talk about the miracle of Pesach, not other things.
UPDATE: Biur Chametz discusses Mystics and Rationalists and how the mixture enhances our discussion of the miracles of Pesach.
On the Second Night - when he does't need to have a Seder since he's in Israel - Orthodox Anarchist plans to use a Blessed Haggadah for a Troubled Age.
UPDATE: Velveteen Rabbi has her recollections about her enjoyment of Pesach as well as a link to her very own Haggadah at "Passover is coming"
Interesting tidbits
Marlon Brando at a Seder? (Thanks to Me-Ander)
Bloghead tells of a Confederate Seder.
Keep your eyes peeled for Not Quite Perfect's Pesach Fractal Art! (to be updated hopefully on Thursday!)
UPDATE: Maybe it's not quite perfect but it is a perfectly awesome Passover Offering. Those fractal flames are something else. So should we make the official artist of Haveil Havalim?
UPDATE: Biur Chametz tells us how each Yom Tov is (or is not) for real men.
UPDATE: Crossing the Rubicon2 has a list of Pesach/Passover options for the discerning palate. (I have no idea of the Hashgochos/Certifications, so I make no recommendations.) It's interesting to read about. It sure ain't your father's macaroons!
Finally Renegade Rebbetzin gives us a really nice pre-pesach tantrum
Remember Devarim has volunteered to host Haveil Havalim after she puts away all of her Pesach dishes on May 8. e-mail her with your suggestions at vov at gorfajn dot com. (Hopefully she'll get lots of e-mails over the next 3 weeks!)
And as always, to check out previous editions, Continue Reading ...
