Luke Potter?

I've joked to a few people that when Obi Wan brought the baby Luke to his uncle at the end of "Revenge of the Sith" that I almost expected a giant on a motorcycle to come out of the sky. A friend pointed out that I wasn't alone. (As my friend advised, "...23rd bullet (or just search for the word "Potter" on that page)."

Very funny, I hadn't thought about that.

I guess I was too busy trying to figure out how, in a world full of Padmes, Obi-Wans, Anakins and Berus, how we ended with a Luke?

Wow - I was quoted in a Blog! My 15 seconds of anonymous fame!

In real life, Luke Skywalker --> Luke S. --> Lucas.

In the reality of the movie, you could argue that the similarity to the name "Luke" of Christian origin is a coincidence, and "Luke" means something else in whatever language they spoke in that galaxy far far away. Just as Tolkien, the consummate linguist, used names like "Sam", which was short for Samwise, and had nothing to do with the Hebraic Sam=Samuel.

Similar coincidences exist in real life - e.g., my daughter's name "Shayna" is of Yiddish origin, but there is also an African-American name "Shayna" (sp?) with obviously a totally unrelated linguistic origin.
