Sorry for the late posting. Yesterday was very hectic with immersing new dishes, carpools, children's little league, a family dinner, patrol and finally a few minutes to talk to my wife, I didn't have time to finish up. So with no further ado here's Haveil Havalim #23!
Last week's host Mystical Paths considers under what circumstances Is it OK to study the Zohar?
Next week's hostess Mirty's Place contemplates Tshuva and it does not entail moving to Brooklyn.
See the great advantage to hosting Haveil Havalim? I'll give you top placement!
Seriously, me-ander has a plea for a kidney for a friend. If you are healthy and feel you can help please contact her.
In An Orange Ribbon (supporting Gush Katif) Biur Chametz explains that he's been away from blogging due to a brief illness and higher priorities than blogging. I can understand the former but the latter is alien to me. Biur Chametz give due credit for the graphic to tireless advocate Joseph Alexander Norland of Israpundit and EFSI.
me-ander wonders about "time wasted? time spent?" What? Like I mentioned before about Biur Chametz: there is nothing more important than blogging. Domestic chores? Puh-leaze.
OK I don't know if that was funny, but on her other blog, Shiloh Musings she notes something Ironic (is not quite the right word) but not funny.
New fellow contributor to Israpundit, Mediacrity points out how the Associated Press spins Israel's upcoming prisoner release in Another Disappointment.
Another fellow Israpundit contributor, Clarity and Resolve notes that Israel's Peace Partners' Activities Interrupted, and that, alas, is a good thing.
Ocean Guy writes in More on Disengagement that it is impossible to fully appreciate what's going on in Israel without reading Israeli bloggers.
One of Ocean Guy's reads, On The Face, draws some wonderful portraits in Learning about coexistence.
Boker Tov Boulder boasts being featured on Page 1. See "Page One Feature at the Jewish Press!"
via a link from Boker Tov Boulder, I found that Jewish Current Issues dissects an editorial from Ha'aretz in Disengagement and Democracy. Unlike the editors of Ha'aretz, JCI trusts people to make informed, rational decisions.
Another fellow Israpundit contributor Mere Rhetoric also rejects an editorial in Ha'aretz in "Technically False." In this case Mere Rhetoric doubts that territorial concessions will reduce the Arab will to destroy Israel.
One of the costs of not living in the same country as one's parents is that sometimes one has to make trips abroad, alone and leave the family for a short time. Treppenwitz, who lives in Israel, has a friend who dealt with this problem in a Cat in the Hat fashion, until he was "Busted."
Since I have a different Treppenwitz entry, I'm not including his photo Friday this time, but have no fear Outside the Blogway treats us to "Ashkelon at Sunset."
The other regular Friday feature of the J-Blogosphere is Sha!'s Friday Miscellaneous Pop Culture Entry. I'm going to back a week to the Friday Miscellaneous Pop Culture Entry of May 28 about Svicka Pick. In the old picture at the bottom, doesn't he look like a member of KISS without the makeup? (Not too surprising since Gene Simmons is Israeli.)
Cosmic X contemplates the The Princess Of Jaffa Street And The King's Daughter and praises modesty in dress. He also proudly proclaim "I am a fundamentalist" and explains why.
Hear Oh Israel is a self proclaimed revisionist and he is appalled at what is happening in his native country. He declares "Khodorkovsky:martyr; Putin:World's Most Dangerous Man".
Dov Bear explains "The Ramban on Hebrew" and takes an approach apparently at odds with the Rashi as usually understood.
Mystical Paths focuses on Focusing your Desires and how one should prioritize based on the words of the Ba'al Shem Tov.
Lazer Beams explains why he has gone from skepticism about signs of Messianic Times ahead to embraching them in "Prophet of Doom, or Head Coach."
Bloghead asks Are Jews Smarter? and if so why? Is it because we ask so many questions? ( Here's an RSS link to the NY Times article so that it won't re-direct to the archive after a week.)
The Town Crier has links to the details of the disengagement plan in Required Reading.
Crossing the Rubicon2 notes the Charming connection that Jew haters have made between Jews and Watergate. IIRC, there was an Arab suggestion that the Mossad planted the blue dress in Monica's closet or something like that.
Ironically Israelly Cool! has an item about an Israeli husband - or future ex-husband - with a fiery temper.
Elder of Ziyon continues through the archives to show us that the British built wall to stop Arab terror in 1938. And no he's not so vain. This blog isn't about him, at least not entirely. I have always used Haveil Havalim. That's my best transliteration of the phrase. Others have differed. But I don't care. But there's nothing untoward about nominating oneself for HH, in fact it makes it easier for the host, who doesn't have to do all the compiling herself (or himself).
The Wandering Jew contemplates the career of Max Baer (who faced Cinderella Man) in Jews and Boxing.
Auterrific tells us that Palestinian Spousal Abuse - It's The Jews' Fault. (via Willow Tree)
Well that's a wrap. I hope you enjoyed the latest edition of Haveil Havalim. Comments, criticisms, volunteers to host in the future are welcome at dhgerstman at hotmail dot com. Over this week please send your suggestions and nominations to Mirty's Place at mirty12 at hotmail dot com TexasMirty at gmail dot com. Shavuos/Shavuot related posts are encouraged!
