Three Palestinian activists, including a political leader for the Hamas militant group, were indicted in Chicago on charges they participated in a lengthy racketeering conspiracy to provide money for terrorist acts in Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (news - web sites), U.S. officials said Friday.

Activists?
Political leader?
Officials said?
Why all the qualifications? What's wrong with the following:
"U.S. officials announced that three members of Hamas were indicted for their roles in perpetrating terror acts against Israeli targets."
Now I feel better.
